Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppies for Sale in New Mexico

Santa Fe has been a Poodle town since the gallery owners arrived, and the breed suits the whole state: a coat that handles the dry air and the altitude sun with a short clip and a little nose balm, and a dog small enough for a Canyon Road casita or sturdy enough for the Sandia foothills, depending on the size you choose. HonestPet connects New Mexico families with vetted breeders who raise Miniature and Toy Poodle litters in their homes and screen the parents' eyes, knees, and hips before breeding. Every puppy arrives vet-checked, microchipped, and groomed, with free ground delivery from Farmington to Carlsbad.

THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why New Mexico Families Choose HonestPet for a Poodle

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

A Poodle's first eight weeks decide its temperament, so ours spend them in a family kitchen with green chile roasting and kids underfoot, not in a kennel block. Your puppy walks into a Nob Hill bungalow, a Rio Rancho two-story, or an Eldorado adobe already on a feeding routine and unbothered by a doorbell, and it works out your household's rules in about the time it takes to find the warm spot by the kiva.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Parent Health Records

Review the testing status listed for each puppy's mom and dad, and ask our team for available eye, knee, hip, and genetic screening records. Testing varies by parent; knowing what is documented helps you make an informed choice.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll settle the size before the puppy. A Toy at 4 to 6 pounds suits a Canyon Road casita, a UNM grad student, or a retiree in Las Cruces; a Miniature at 10 to 15 pounds suits a Los Alamos family whose kids want a dog that can hike the Sandias and swim at Abiquiu. Then we'll say which puppy in that litter has the temperament for your house.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

STATEWIDE DELIVERY

Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppies Delivered Anywhere in New Mexico

A HonestPet Poodle of either size comes out of a vetted breeder's home, never a storefront or a broker's lot. New Mexico families take free ground delivery to the door or a flight nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin into the Sunport, Santa Fe, or El Paso for Las Cruces; a Toy or a Mini fits under the seat with room to spare. The puppy arrives brushed and groomed, with the handler's note on keeping the first walks short while it adjusts to the altitude.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Miniature and Toy Poodles Fit New Mexico, Casita to Foothills

Two sizes, one Poodle: curly, clever, low-shedding, and bonded to its person. A Toy, under 10 inches and 4 to 6 pounds, is the dog for a Canyon Road casita, a retiree in Las Cruces, or a Nob Hill apartment; a Miniature, 10 to 15 inches and 10 to 15 pounds, is the dog for a Rio Rancho family with kids, a yard, and a foothills trail. Both are the second-smartest breed and housetrain in days, both need a groomer every four to six weeks because the coat grows rather than sheds, though the dry air means mats are rare, and both bark at the roadrunner on the wall until taught not to, which takes a Poodle about a week. The altitude sun burns a short-clipped back, so the summer clip stays a little longer at 5,000 feet, and a Toy wears a sweater on a Santa Fe morning most of the year.

Apartment-Friendly Size

A HonestPet Toy finishes at 4 to 6 pounds and a Miniature at 10 to 15, which clears the weight limits in a Downtown Albuquerque or Railyard building and fits a carrier for the drive up to Taos. A Toy rides in a tote down Canyon Road; a Miniature walks the Bosque trail or the Dale Ball trails beside you. Either size fits a North Valley adobe, and the Mini is sturdy enough for a first-grader and a foothills hike.

Low-Shedding Coat

Poodles have curly, low-shedding coats that need regular brushing and professional grooming. No dog is completely hypoallergenic; families with allergies should spend time around Poodles before deciding.

Choose the Size for Your Family

Miniatures can be a better match for families with children, while a tiny Toy needs especially gentle handling. Supervise every interaction, teach children to let the puppy rest, and choose temperament as carefully as size.

Quick to Train

Miniature and Toy Poodles respond well to short, positive training sessions. Practice house training, calm greetings, and quiet hallway behavior consistently, and add puzzle games to keep their quick minds occupied.

Exercise to Match Their Size

A Miniature Poodle needs a real walk and loves a swim, which in New Mexico means the Bosque, the Sandia and Santa Fe foothills, Cochiti, Abiquiu, Elephant Butte, and the Rio Grande in a wet spring, where a Mini will retrieve out of cold water until you call it in. A Toy is content with two short walks and fetch in the hallway, and at a reservoir it wears a vest, since five pounds chills fast in snowmelt. Both adjust to the altitude in a week or two, both need nose balm and a longer clip in June, and in a Las Cruces July walks happen at dawn. Coyotes live in every foothills neighborhood from Placitas to the Eastside, red-tailed hawks and great horned owls hunt the arroyos, and rattlesnakes are out from April to October, so a Toy is never alone in a yard and neither size goes off leash on a trail.

Made for Company

Both sizes enjoy being close to their people. Build up alone time gradually, provide enrichment, and arrange a dog walker or sitter when your schedule keeps you away for long stretches.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Poodle Home

Most New Mexico families take free ground delivery to the door, with the puppy brushed, fed on schedule, and handed over with the breeder's grooming notes, and our drivers watch I-25 and I-40 for wind and winter closures. Prefer to fly? A flight nanny carries your Poodle in the cabin to one of three airports serving New Mexico, and a Toy or a Miniature is a fraction of the airline limit. Either way, we choose the date together and keep you posted until the puppy is on the brick floor.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is the gentlest trip for a Poodle puppy, and for a Toy it's the one we recommend: a climate-controlled vehicle the whole way, water and a small meal every few hours because a tiny puppy's blood sugar drops faster than a bigger dog's, a gradual climb to the altitude, and a scheduled handoff at your door in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, or the Four Corners.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Want to meet your puppy before it travels? If the breeder's location and schedule make it workable, HonestPet can arrange an in-person visit, the moment to see the parents' coats, ask what size the litter should finish at, and read through the eye and knee results.

Flight Nanny

One flat $799 fee to any airport we serve for New Mexico. Your Poodle flies in a soft carrier under the seat at the nanny's feet, never in cargo, and because both sizes are far under the in-cabin limit, the carrier is the simplest part. The nanny books a nonstop into the Sunport, or a connection into Santa Fe or El Paso, keeps a Toy puppy fed on schedule, and hands the dog to you at arrivals with a reminder to keep the first walks short while it acclimates.

Not sure which option fits? Send us a message and we'll help you sort it out.

HEALTH FIRST

Miniature and Toy Poodle Health Screening

Miniature and Toy Poodles have breed-specific health considerations. Ask to review available screening results for your puppy's parents, including eye, knee, and hip evaluations where appropriate. Testing varies by parent, and no screening or genetic test can guarantee a puppy will never develop a health problem.

Parents

Eye Evaluations

Ask for available eye examination records for both parents. An eye exam can identify some inherited or developing eye problems, but a normal result is not a lifetime guarantee of healthy vision.

Parents

Knee Evaluations

Luxating patellas can affect small Poodles. Ask about available parental knee evaluations and discuss the results with your veterinarian; screening helps assess risk without ruling out every future knee problem.

Parents

Hip Evaluations

Hip health is an important discussion, especially for Miniature Poodles. Ask which evaluations are appropriate for the parents and whether results are available to review with your veterinarian.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

Some forms of progressive retinal atrophy can affect Miniature and Toy Poodles. Where relevant genetic results are available, ask which variant was tested and how the parents were paired. A genetic panel does not replace clinical eye exams.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

This inherited bleeding disorder can occur in Poodles. Ask whether relevant parental genetic testing is available and share any results with your vet when planning surgery or other procedures.

Parents

Records and Size-Specific Care

Review the health history and documented adult size of both parents. Discuss dental care, feeding needs, and any family history of health concerns with the breeder and your vet, especially when considering a very small Toy puppy.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before a Poodle leaves for New Mexico, a licensed vet gives it a complete exam with the breed's trouble spots in focus: the knees, since luxating patellas are the most common orthopedic problem in both sizes, the eyes, the bite and baby teeth, which crowd in a Toy's small jaw, the heart, and in a Toy, the trachea. The vet issues the certificate of veterinary inspection required for travel into New Mexico, and the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your Albuquerque, Santa Fe, or Las Cruces vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Core vaccines are complete for the puppy's age, and deworming has followed a schedule since the first weeks. Your New Mexico vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot the state requires by 3 months, and should talk with you about rattlesnake avoidance training once the puppy is older, since every foothills trail is snake country from April to October; about Valley fever, which lives in the southern half of the state's soil; about a harness in place of a collar, especially for a Toy; and about nose balm and a grooming schedule for the dry air. The microchip is implanted before departure, which also satisfies Albuquerque's chip requirement, and the handler helps you register it in your name.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppy FAQs

Prices vary by puppy, size, and other individual characteristics. Check the current price on each available listing and ask our team what is included before reserving. Free ground delivery to New Mexico is available as described on this page.

Yes, in both sizes. Most New Mexico families take free ground delivery to the door, and for a Toy puppy that's the trip we recommend. In-cabin flight nanny delivery is also available into the Albuquerque Sunport, Santa Fe, and El Paso for Las Cruces, depending on route and availability, with the puppy at the nanny's feet in the cabin; a Miniature or Toy Poodle is well under every airline's in-cabin limit.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. Poodles have low-shedding coats, but allergens are also found in saliva and skin flakes. Spend time around Poodles before choosing a puppy if allergies are a concern, and plan on regular brushing and grooming.

Our Toy Poodles typically finish at 4 to 6 pounds and our Miniatures at 10 to 15 pounds. Adult size varies by puppy; review the listing's estimated adult weight and ask about both parents before making your choice.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Choose an available puppy and send us an inquiry. Our team can help you review the puppy, meet by video, and confirm the reservation deposit, total price, and payment schedule before you proceed.

Ask our team for available parent eye, knee, hip, and genetic screening results; testing varies by parent. Each puppy's veterinary, vaccine, deworming, and microchip records help your New Mexico vet plan ongoing care. Screening cannot eliminate every inherited or future health risk.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

THE JOURNEY HOME

How Poodle Delivery to New Mexico Works

Free ground delivery to the door is how most of our New Mexico Poodles arrive, and for a Toy it's the gentlest option. Families who'd rather fly book the flight nanny, who brings the puppy in the cabin to one of three airports serving New Mexico, with a Toy's feeding schedule kept through the flight.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door.Your handler delivers the puppy, starter bag, brush, and the breeder's grooming notes to your door and talks through the first week of feeding, the harness, the altitude adjustment, and bedtime. In Rio Rancho or Eldorado they'll text as they reach your road; in a Downtown or Railyard building they'll meet you at the door; and on a windy spring day they'll call from La Bajada with an ETA.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

NEW MEXICO QUESTIONS

Getting a Miniature or Toy Poodle in New Mexico: Your Questions Answered

Which size to choose, Albuquerque's pet store rule, altitude and sun, coyotes and snakes, city licensing, and how a puppy travels: the questions New Mexico Poodle families ask most.

It depends on the city. New Mexico has no statewide ban, but Albuquerque passed one of the first local bans in the country back in 2006, so stores there can't sell commercially bred puppies, while elsewhere in the state a Poodle in a store window almost certainly came from a large out-of-state kennel where nobody examined the parents' eyes or knees. No store can show you the mother, the home, or a test result. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect New Mexico families directly with vetted breeders who raise Miniature and Toy Poodles at home and share the parents' screening before you reserve.

Match the size to the household and the terrain. A Toy, at 4 to 6 pounds, is the better fit for a casita or condo, a retiree, a student, and a home without toddlers, and it rides the trail in a backpack and stays on a leash where coyotes, hawks, and rattlesnakes live. A Miniature, at 10 to 15 pounds, is the better fit for a family with kids, a yard, and a foothills habit, and it will hike and swim on its own feet. Both are brilliant and low-shedding, and in the dry air both can usually stretch the groomer to every six weeks.

Yes, in most cities. New Mexico leaves licensing to cities and counties, and Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Las Cruces, and Bernalillo County all require an annual license once your Poodle has a current rabies certificate, which state law requires by 3 months. Albuquerque also requires a microchip, which every HonestPet puppy already has; spayed and neutered dogs pay less, and the fee is the same for a five-pound Toy and a fifteen-pound Mini.

After you reserve your Poodle, HonestPet plans the trip from the breeder's home to yours in New Mexico around the calendar and the wind forecast. Vet-checked, brushed, and fed before departure, the puppy then rides in a climate-controlled vehicle with a feeding stop every few hours and a gradual climb to altitude, or flies in the cabin with a nanny. You'll have the schedule before departure and a message from each leg.

Usually 2 to 4 hours into the Sunport, depending on the breeder's location, with a connection for Santa Fe or El Paso. Your Poodle rides in a carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin for the whole flight, never in cargo, and a Toy puppy eats a small meal partway through so its blood sugar doesn't drop on a long leg.

Sometimes. If the breeder's location and schedule make it workable, HonestPet can set up a visit so you can meet the puppy and the parents and see what size the adults finished at. Breeder homes are in a few states and kept private, so a visit is booked for one family at a time.
