THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why New Mexico Families Choose HonestPet

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise litters inside their own homes, not kennel buildings. Puppies that have already lived with kids, doorbells, and a dishwasher running settle in quickly, whether they're moving into a North Valley casita, a Northeast Heights ranch house, or a home with a courtyard in Las Cruces.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Health-Tested Parents

Most of our puppies’ parents are DNA tested. Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad, so you can review this information before choosing your puppy.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll tell you which puppy fits your life, even if it isn't the one you first picked. A calm pup for a downtown Albuquerque loft, a bolder one for a Corrales family with a fenced yard and three kids.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Cavapoos Do Well in New Mexico Homes

A Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle, which gives you the Cavalier's sweet, people-loving nature and the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat. They're sized for a Santa Fe casita or an Albuquerque backyard, they handle dry air and altitude easily, and they're happy to spend a hot afternoon inside and a cool evening on the portal.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Most of our Cavapoos finish between 10 and 23 pounds. That's within the pet weight limits most New Mexico apartment communities and HOAs set, and small enough to carry across a hot parking lot or lift over a patch of goatheads.

Low-Shedding Coat

Their wavy or curly coats shed very little. No dog is fully hypoallergenic, but many people with mild allergies live comfortably with a Cavapoo.

Gentle With Kids

Cavapoos are patient and gentle, which is why so many families with young children choose them. Supervised play is still a must.

Quick to Train

Poodle smarts plus a real wish to please. Short, consistent sessions go a long way with potty training and basic manners.

Moderate Energy

Cavapoos need moderate exercise. In summer, walk early and late; the rest of the year they'll happily join you on the Bosque trail, in the Sandia foothills, or on a Santa Fe Rail Trail stroll. Two New Mexico rules to know: check paws for goathead thorns after every walk, and ask your vet about rattlesnake avoidance before you hike in warm weather.

Made for Company

Cavapoos want to be wherever you are. They're a great fit for work-from-home schedules. If you're gone 10 hours a day, plan on a dog walker.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Cavapoo Home

Most New Mexico families choose free ground delivery, which brings your puppy to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny can carry your puppy in the cabin to one of three airports serving New Mexico. Our team confirms the date with you either way, schedules summer handoffs for the cooler hours, and keeps you updated until your puppy arrives.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery to New Mexico is a longer route, so our drivers plan it around the puppy: climate-controlled vehicles, frequent water and potty stops, and overnight rest when the trip calls for it. Cavapoos are relaxed travelers, and most arrive sleepy, curious, and ready to explore.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Prefer to meet first? When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can arrange an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery to New Mexico.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any airport we serve for New Mexico. Your puppy flies in the cabin on the nanny's lap, never in cargo, so summer heat restrictions on checked pets don't apply. The nanny meets you at arrivals and hands your puppy over.

Not sure which option fits? Send us a message and we'll help you sort it out.

HEALTH FIRST

Cavapoo Parent Health Screening

Cavaliers and Poodles each have known inherited health risks, which is why we’re working toward having all of our breeders complete genetic screening for the conditions most relevant to the Cavapoo breed. Testing varies by parent; ask to review available results for the parents of any puppy you’re considering.

Parents

Curly Coat / Dry Eye Syndrome

A Cavalier condition that shows up in a puppy's first weeks. Affected puppies can't make normal tears and develop a rough coat, flaky skin, and cracked, sore paw pads. It's only a risk when both parents have Cavalier ancestry, as in F2 and multigeneration Cavapoos.

Parents

Degenerative Myelopathy

A slow spinal cord disease that usually doesn't appear until later in life, often after age 8. It starts with wobbly, dragging back legs and gradually leads to hind-end weakness. It isn't painful, but there's no cure, so testing the parents is the best protection.

Parents

Episodic Falling Syndrome

Another Cavalier condition. When an affected dog gets excited, stressed, or exercises hard, its muscles stiffen and it may freeze mid-step or fall over. The dog stays fully awake through each episode. Signs usually start before the first birthday.

Parents

Neonatal Encephalopathy

A Poodle condition that affects newborns. Affected puppies are born small and weak, have trouble with balance, and often develop seizures. Because they rarely survive their first few weeks, this test is about pairing parents so no puppy is born with it.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

One of the more common inherited conditions in Toy and Miniature Poodles. The retina slowly breaks down, starting with night blindness in adulthood and often leading to full blindness. It isn't painful and most dogs adjust well, but the vision loss can't be reversed.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

A bleeding disorder where blood doesn't clot as well as it should. Many dogs with it live normal lives, but they can bleed longer after surgery, an injury, or losing baby teeth. Knowing the parents' results helps your vet plan ahead for spay or neuter.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before any puppy leaves for New Mexico, a licensed vet performs a full nose-to-tail exam: heart and lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, skin, and a check for hernias. The vet issues a health certificate for interstate travel, and a copy of the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your New Mexico vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Each puppy is current on core vaccines for their age and has been dewormed on a regular schedule since their first weeks. Your vet will finish the series, including the rabies shot New Mexico requires by 3 months of age, which Albuquerque and Santa Fe will ask for at licensing. New Mexico's dry climate is easy on a Cavapoo, but ask your vet about rattlesnake vaccine if you hike, and keep an eye out for foxtails along the trails. Every puppy is microchipped, and we'll help you register the chip in your name.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Cavapoo Puppy FAQs

Our Cavapoo puppies are $2,500 to $6,000, depending on size, coat, and color. The price of each puppy includes vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, a vet exam, lifetime training and support, a digital copy of their records, and free ground delivery to your home.

Yes. Most families choose free ground delivery straight to their door. Flight nanny delivery is also available to the airports serving New Mexico, including the Albuquerque Sunport, Santa Fe, and El Paso for Las Cruces, depending on route and availability.

While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Cavapoos are known for their low-shedding coats and can be a good choice for some families with mild dog allergies. How much a Cavapoo sheds can vary based on their individual coat genetics and generation, with some puppies inheriting more of the Poodle’s low-shedding coat characteristics. If allergies or shedding are a concern, review each puppy’s generation and coat type, and talk with our team about which available Cavapoo may be the best fit for your family.

Most Cavapoos weigh 10 to 23 pounds and stand 9 to 14 inches tall as adults. Size depends mostly on the Poodle parent. We list an estimated adult weight for every puppy we have available.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Pick an available puppy then send us an inquiry. After we talk, a $349 deposit holds your puppy. The balance is due before go-home day.

We’re working toward having every parent DNA tested and screened for relevant heart, knee, and eye conditions before breeding. Every puppy also receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Available parent health and genetic testing results can be viewed on our Parents page.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door. The handler hands your puppy to you at home, along with their starter bag. In a downtown Albuquerque building or a gated community in Rio Rancho, they'll call ahead so you can meet them in the lobby or at the gate, and in summer the handoff happens early or late.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

NEW MEXICO QUESTIONS

Getting a Cavapoo in New Mexico: Your Questions Answered

What New Mexico families ask us most, from Albuquerque's pet store rule to city licensing and goatheads.

It depends on the city. New Mexico has no statewide ban, but Albuquerque passed one of the first local bans in the country back in 2006, so stores there can't sell commercially bred puppies. Elsewhere, a store still can't show you the parents, the home the puppy was raised in, or the breeder's health testing. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect New Mexico families directly with vetted home breeders and share all of that up front.

For most people, yes. Cavapoos are small, fairly quiet, and don't need a yard, which suits a Nob Hill apartment or a casita near the Plaza in Santa Fe. Check your lease for weight limits and pet fees, and plan on a few walks a day, timed around the heat in summer. They're just as happy in a Rio Rancho house with a fenced yard.

Yes, in most cities. New Mexico leaves licensing to cities and counties, and Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Las Cruces, and Bernalillo County all require an annual license tied to a current rabies certificate. State law requires that rabies vaccine by 3 months of age, and Albuquerque also requires a microchip. Fees are lower for spayed and neutered dogs.

Once you reserve your puppy, HonestPet plans the route from the breeder's home to yours. Your puppy gets a final vet exam and a travel health certificate, then rides to New Mexico in a climate-controlled delivery vehicle or in the cabin with a flight nanny to the Sunport or the airport nearest you. We confirm the schedule with you and send updates along the way.

Flights to New Mexico usually run 3 to 4 hours, depending on where the breeder is located and which airport you choose. Your puppy stays with the flight nanny the whole way and rides in the cabin, never in cargo.

Sometimes, yes. When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery. Because our breeders are located in different areas and we protect their privacy, visits are arranged one family at a time rather than offered as open appointments.
