French Bulldog Puppies for Sale in Maine

Maine's summer is the best French Bulldog weather in the East, and Maine's winter is some of the worst, which is why a Maine Frenchie owns more sweaters than its people. HonestPet connects Maine families with vetted breeders who raise Frenchie litters at home and screen the parents for the breathing and spine problems the breed carries. Every puppy arrives vet-checked and microchipped, and ground delivery is free to any Maine address, the West End to Camden to Presque Isle.

THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Maine Families Choose HonestPet for Their Frenchie

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise French Bulldogs in the house, where the puppies learn a woodstove door, a dishwasher, and a toddler before they're old enough to leave. A Frenchie that spent its first eight weeks in a family kitchen walks into a West End condo, a Falmouth cape, or a farmhouse outside Belfast and settles in the first night, not the third week.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Parent Health Records

Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health records, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments; screening coverage varies by parent.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll tell you which puppy fits your life, not which one has the best ears. For a couple in an Old Port apartment who'll walk the dog on the Eastern Prom every morning, that's the pup that breathes quietest; for a Scarborough family with a yard and three kids, it's the sturdier one that wants in on everything, including the snow, briefly, in a coat.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

STATEWIDE DELIVERY

French Bulldog Puppies Delivered Anywhere in Maine

Every HonestPet French Bulldog is raised in the home of a breeder we've vetted; no store or broker is involved, and Maine's 2020 law has nearly closed the store route anyway. Maine families choose free ground delivery to the door or a flight nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin into the Jetport, Bangor, or Logan. Airlines don't accept flat-faced breeds in cargo, so cabin is the only flight we book, and from December through March the ground run uses a heated vehicle and an indoor handoff.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why French Bulldogs Suit Maine, With the Right Coat

A French Bulldog is a 20-to-28-pound clown with bat ears and a flat face, and it needs almost nothing: a short walk, a warm lap, and a window to watch the harbor from. A Maine summer, cool and dry on the coast, is close to ideal for a brachycephalic dog, which is why Frenchies are everywhere in the Old Port in July. The winter is the other story. A thin single coat and a low belly mean a real insulated coat, booties against salt and ice, and walks measured in minutes from December to March, and mud season after that means a towel by the door.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Our French Bulldogs top out at 20 to 28 pounds. That's under the pet cap in most Portland condo buildings, fits a carrier for the ferry to Peaks Island, and is small enough that a proper insulated dog coat fits well, which from the first nor'easter to the last a Maine Frenchie will wear.

Short, Smooth Coat

French Bulldogs have short, smooth coats and do shed. Regular brushing helps manage loose hair, and their skin folds need gentle cleaning and drying. They are not a hypoallergenic breed.

Playful Family Companions

Frenchies are playful and affectionate. Supervise interactions with children, teach gentle handling, and give your puppy a quiet place to rest. Keep play short and cool rather than encouraging rough play or long chases.

Patient, Positive Training

A Frenchie can be clever and independent. Use short sessions, rewards, and consistent potty routines to build good habits. Our lifetime training support helps you work through puppy manners without harsh methods.

Short Walks, Cool Play

Two short walks and some play on the rug are all the exercise a Frenchie needs, and from May to October the Eastern Prom or the Kennebunk beach at seven in the morning is close to perfect. In winter, it's ten minutes in a coat and booties and back inside. The carriage roads in Acadia are a fine Frenchie stroll, flat and shaded; the trail up Cadillac is not. On Sebago, Casco Bay, or any dock on the Midcoast, a life vest goes on before the puppy is near the water, because French Bulldogs cannot swim and the Gulf of Maine is cold enough to stop one in a minute.

Made for Company

French Bulldogs enjoy being near their people. Build up time alone gradually, and arrange company and potty breaks when you will be away for long stretches. An air-conditioned home and a predictable routine help them stay comfortable.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your French Bulldog Home

Most Maine families take free ground delivery straight to the door, which for a flat-faced puppy is the trip with the fewest variables. Prefer to fly? A flight nanny carries your Frenchie in the cabin to one of three airports serving Maine, never in cargo, which airlines don't allow for the breed anyway. Both ways, we settle the date together and keep the updates coming until the puppy is inside and warm.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is our recommendation for a French Bulldog, and the Maine route is built for the season: a climate-controlled vehicle that's cooled in July and heated hard in January, a ventilated crate, quick stops, an overnight if the drive calls for it, and a handoff that happens indoors or under cover when it's below freezing. Most puppies sleep through the whole thing and wake up at your door.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Would you like to meet your puppy first? When the breeder's location and timing make it possible, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit before your Frenchie makes the trip to Maine.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 into any airport we serve for Maine. Your Frenchie travels in a ventilated soft carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin, the only way this breed should ever fly, and it also sidesteps the winter temperature embargoes that keep checked pets off flights into the Jetport from December through March. The nanny hands the puppy to you at arrivals.

HEALTH FIRST

French Bulldog Health and Parent Screening

French Bulldogs need particular attention to breathing, heat tolerance, and spine and joint health. Parent screening and available records vary by dog; ask to review the findings for the parents of the puppy you are considering. A DNA test or veterinary exam is not a guarantee against future breathing or mobility problems, and your vet can help plan ongoing care.

Parents & puppies

Airway and Breathing

Flat-faced dogs can have narrowed nostrils and other airway problems. Ask what breathing assessments are available for the parents, and discuss your puppy's breathing with your vet. Snoring and poor exercise tolerance deserve attention rather than being dismissed as normal.

Parents & puppies

Spine and Back Health

Ask about the parents' spine-health history and any available veterinary findings. French Bulldogs can develop spinal problems; keeping them lean and using ramps instead of repeated jumps can help with daily care, but does not eliminate the risk.

Parents & puppies

Hips and Knees

Review any available hip and knee assessments for the parents with our team. Your vet can check your puppy's gait and joints and advise on suitable exercise. Do not assume every parent has had the same examinations.

Parents & puppies

Eye Health

Ask which parent eye examinations or genetic results are available. Frenchies' prominent eyes need care; contact your vet about redness, squinting, or discharge, and protect the eyes during play.

Puppies

Skin Folds and Care

Discuss skin-fold cleaning and any signs of irritation with your vet. Keep folds clean and dry, watch for itching or redness, and ask for guidance before using skin products. Short coats still need regular brushing.

Parents

Parent Health Records

Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health and genetic records before reserving. Genetic results do not replace a clinical assessment of breathing, spine, or joint health.

Puppies

Vet Exam

A licensed vet examines every Frenchie before it leaves for Maine, and the exam concentrates on what matters in this breed: nostril width, breathing at rest and after a burst of play, a straight spine, sound hips and knees, and healthy skin folds. The vet issues the certificate of veterinary inspection Maine requires for dogs entering the state, and the exam, breathing notes and all, goes into the puppy's digital records for your Portland, Bangor, or Midcoast vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Every core vaccine due for the puppy's age has been given, and deworming has run on a schedule since week two. Your Maine vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot the state requires by 3 months and that your town clerk will ask about at licensing, and should start tick prevention immediately, since Maine's Lyme rate is among the highest in the country and the ticks are active from the first thaw. A winter weigh-in is worth asking about; a Frenchie that spends January by the woodstove gains fast, and extra weight narrows a short airway. The puppy is chipped before departure, and we help you register the chip in your name.

Every puppy comes with a vet exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, digital records, lifetime training and support, and free ground delivery to your home.

Yes. Most Maine families take free ground delivery to the door, with the puppy in a heated or cooled vehicle depending on the month. In-cabin flight nanny delivery is also available into the Portland Jetport, Bangor, and Boston Logan for York County, depending on route and availability, with the puppy at the nanny's feet in the cabin. A French Bulldog never flies as cargo.

Yes. French Bulldogs have short, smooth coats that shed, and they are not hypoallergenic. Regular brushing helps manage loose hair. If allergies are a concern, discuss the individual puppy with our team before deciding.

Our French Bulldogs typically finish between 20 and 28 pounds. Review the individual puppy’s estimated adult size and parent information with our team, and check your building's pet policy before reserving.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Pick an available puppy then send us an inquiry. After we talk, review the current reservation amount for your puppy before placing your deposit. The deposit goes toward the total price, and the balance is due before go-home day.

Parent testing varies by breeder and by dog. Review the available DNA testing status and health records for the puppy’s mom and dad with our team, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments. Every puppy receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Your vet can help plan ongoing French Bulldog care; screening does not guarantee freedom from future health problems.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

THE JOURNEY HOME

How Frenchie Delivery to Maine Works

Most of our Maine French Bulldogs come home by free ground delivery to the door. If you'd prefer to fly, a flight nanny brings the puppy in the cabin to one of three airports serving Maine, carrier at their feet in the climate-controlled cabin the whole way.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door. The handler delivers the puppy and starter bag to your door and goes over the season's rules before leaving, sun and ticks in summer, cold, salt, and ice in winter. In a Portland building they'll arrange access in advance, and when it's below freezing the handoff happens in the entryway or the garage, never on the sidewalk.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

MAINE QUESTIONS

Getting a French Bulldog in Maine: Your Questions Answered

Winter, mud season, cold water, ticks, town licenses, and the trip itself: what Maine Frenchie families want to know before they reserve.

Almost certainly not. Since 2020, Maine has barred any pet shop that wasn't already selling dogs from starting, and only a handful of grandfathered shops remain, so French Bulldogs have all but disappeared from store windows across the state. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Maine families directly with vetted breeders who raise Frenchies at home, share the parents' airway and spine screening, and coordinate delivery to your door.

Yes, with gear and a plan. A Frenchie has a thin single coat, no undercoat, and a belly a few inches off the ground, so it feels a Maine January immediately. Put on an insulated coat, use booties against salt and ice, keep walks to ten minutes below freezing, and let the puppy do its business and come back in. The upside is that a French Bulldog is delighted to spend a snow day by the woodstove, and a Maine summer, cool and dry, is about the best weather this breed ever gets.

Yes. Once your Frenchie turns 6 months, Maine requires a license from your town clerk, and licenses run on a calendar year, so renewals are due January 1 with a late fee starting February 1. The clerk will ask for a current rabies certificate, which Maine requires by 3 months, and a spayed or neutered Frenchie pays the lower fee.

Once your reservation is in, HonestPet plans the trip from the breeder's home to yours in Maine around the season. The puppy gets a final vet exam with its breathing checked at rest and after play, then rides in a climate-controlled delivery vehicle, heated hard in winter and with an overnight if the distance calls for it, or in the cabin with a flight nanny, never as cargo. You'll have the schedule before departure, a winter handoff that stays out of the cold, and a message at each leg.

Typically 1 to 2 hours into the Jetport or Bangor, which for a brachycephalic puppy is as easy as flying gets. The puppy spends the entire flight in a ventilated carrier at the nanny's feet. Because airlines won't accept flat-faced breeds in the hold, the cabin is the only way a French Bulldog reaches Maine by air, and the nanny also avoids the winter embargo that grounds checked pets at the Jetport.

Sometimes. When the breeder's location and calendar cooperate, HonestPet can arrange a visit so you meet the puppy and the parents and hear the adults breathe after they've been playing. Our breeders live in several states and keep their addresses private, so each visit is arranged separately rather than offered as drop-in hours.
