THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Maine Families Choose HonestPet

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise litters inside their own homes, not kennel buildings. Puppies that have already lived with kids, doorbells, and a woodstove crackling settle in quickly, whether they're moving into a West End brownstone in Portland, a Falmouth colonial, or a house on the river in Bangor.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Health-Tested Parents

Most of our puppies’ parents are DNA tested. Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad, so you can review this information before choosing your puppy.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll tell you which puppy fits your life, even if it isn't the one you first picked. A calm pup for a Kennebunk retiree's routine, a bolder one for a Gorham family with a fenced yard and three kids.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Cavapoos Are Right at Home in Maine

A Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle: the Cavalier's warm, stay-close temperament and the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat, which matters in an old house that's buttoned up from November to April. They're sized for a Portland apartment or a Midcoast cape, hardy enough for a nor'easter in a sweater, and happiest by the woodstove with you.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Most of our Cavapoos finish between 10 and 23 pounds. That's within the pet limits most Portland-area rentals and condo associations set, and an easy size to carry across an icy dooryard or lift into the canoe.

Low-Shedding Coat

Their wavy or curly coats shed very little. No dog is fully hypoallergenic, but many people with mild allergies live comfortably with a Cavapoo.

Gentle With Kids

Cavapoos are patient and gentle, which is why so many families with young children choose them. Supervised play is still a must.

Quick to Train

Poodle smarts plus a real wish to please. Short, consistent sessions go a long way with potty training and basic manners.

Moderate Energy

Cavapoos need moderate exercise. A couple of walks and some fetch keep them happy, and they'll gladly join you on the Eastern Prom, around Back Cove, or on the carriage roads at Acadia, where leashed dogs are welcome on most trails. Blackflies in May and ticks from spring through fall are the real Maine hazards, so ask your vet about prevention early.

Made for Company

Cavapoos want to be wherever you are. They're a great fit for work-from-home schedules. If you're gone 10 hours a day, plan on a dog walker.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Cavapoo Home

Most Maine families choose free ground delivery, which brings your puppy to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny can carry your puppy in the cabin to one of three airports serving Maine. Our team confirms the date with you either way and keeps you updated until your puppy arrives.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is our preferred way to bring a Cavapoo to Maine. Puppies ride in a climate-controlled vehicle with water and potty stops along the way, and our drivers plan around winter weather on I-95. Cavapoos are easygoing travelers, and most doze through the trip and wake up ready to meet you.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Prefer to meet first? When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can arrange an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery to Maine.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any airport we serve for Maine. Your puppy flies in the cabin with the nanny, never in cargo, so the winter cold-weather embargoes airlines place on checked pets don't apply. The nanny hands your puppy to you at arrivals.

Not sure which option fits? Send us a message and we'll help you sort it out.

HEALTH FIRST

Cavapoo Parent Health Screening

Cavaliers and Poodles each have known inherited health risks, which is why we’re working toward having all of our breeders complete genetic screening for the conditions most relevant to the Cavapoo breed. Testing varies by parent; ask to review available results for the parents of any puppy you’re considering.

Parents

Curly Coat / Dry Eye Syndrome

A Cavalier condition that shows up in a puppy's first weeks. Affected puppies can't make normal tears and develop a rough coat, flaky skin, and cracked, sore paw pads. It's only a risk when both parents have Cavalier ancestry, as in F2 and multigeneration Cavapoos.

Parents

Degenerative Myelopathy

A slow spinal cord disease that usually doesn't appear until later in life, often after age 8. It starts with wobbly, dragging back legs and gradually leads to hind-end weakness. It isn't painful, but there's no cure, so testing the parents is the best protection.

Parents

Episodic Falling Syndrome

Another Cavalier condition. When an affected dog gets excited, stressed, or exercises hard, its muscles stiffen and it may freeze mid-step or fall over. The dog stays fully awake through each episode. Signs usually start before the first birthday.

Parents

Neonatal Encephalopathy

A Poodle condition that affects newborns. Affected puppies are born small and weak, have trouble with balance, and often develop seizures. Because they rarely survive their first few weeks, this test is about pairing parents so no puppy is born with it.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

One of the more common inherited conditions in Toy and Miniature Poodles. The retina slowly breaks down, starting with night blindness in adulthood and often leading to full blindness. It isn't painful and most dogs adjust well, but the vision loss can't be reversed.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

A bleeding disorder where blood doesn't clot as well as it should. Many dogs with it live normal lives, but they can bleed longer after surgery, an injury, or losing baby teeth. Knowing the parents' results helps your vet plan ahead for spay or neuter.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before any puppy leaves for Maine, a licensed vet performs a full nose-to-tail exam: heart and lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, skin, and a check for hernias. The vet issues the interstate health certificate Maine requires for every dog entering the state, and a copy of the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your Maine vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Each puppy is current on core vaccines for their age and has been dewormed on a regular schedule since their first weeks. Your vet will finish the series, including the rabies vaccine Maine requires by 3 months of age, which your town clerk will ask for at licensing. Lyme and anaplasmosis are both common in Maine, so ask your vet about tick prevention at your first visit. Every puppy is microchipped, and we'll help you register the chip in your name.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Cavapoo Puppy FAQs

Our Cavapoo puppies are $2,500 to $6,000, depending on size, coat, and color. The price of each puppy includes vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, a vet exam, lifetime training and support, a digital copy of their records, and free ground delivery to your home.

Yes. Most families choose free ground delivery straight to their door. Flight nanny delivery is also available to the airports serving Maine, including the Portland Jetport, Bangor, and Boston Logan for York County, depending on route and availability.

While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Cavapoos are known for their low-shedding coats and can be a good choice for some families with mild dog allergies. How much a Cavapoo sheds can vary based on their individual coat genetics and generation, with some puppies inheriting more of the Poodle’s low-shedding coat characteristics. If allergies or shedding are a concern, review each puppy’s generation and coat type, and talk with our team about which available Cavapoo may be the best fit for your family.

Most Cavapoos weigh 10 to 23 pounds and stand 9 to 14 inches tall as adults. Size depends mostly on the Poodle parent. We list an estimated adult weight for every puppy we have available.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Pick an available puppy then send us an inquiry. After we talk, a $349 deposit holds your puppy. The balance is due before go-home day.

We’re working toward having every parent DNA tested and screened for relevant heart, knee, and eye conditions before breeding. Every puppy also receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Available parent health and genetic testing results can be viewed on our Parents page.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

MAINE QUESTIONS

Getting a Cavapoo in Maine: Your Questions Answered

What Maine families ask us most, from the state pet shop law to the January license deadline and tick season.

Almost certainly not. Since 2020, Maine has barred any pet shop that wasn't already selling dogs from starting, and only a handful of grandfathered shops remain, so breeder puppies have largely disappeared from store windows. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Maine families directly with vetted home breeders, share each puppy's parent health testing, and coordinate delivery to your door.

For most people, yes. Cavapoos are small, fairly quiet, and don't need a yard, which suits a West End apartment or a condo on Munjoy Hill. Check your lease for weight limits and pet fees, and plan on a few walks a day, with shorter ones on the coldest days. They're just as happy in a Scarborough house with a fenced yard.

Yes. Maine requires every dog 6 months and older to be licensed through your town clerk, and licenses run on a calendar year, so renewals are due January 1 with a late fee starting February 1. You'll need a current rabies certificate, which state law requires by 3 months of age, and fees are lower for spayed and neutered dogs.

Once you reserve your puppy, HonestPet schedules the trip from the breeder's home to yours. Your puppy gets a final vet exam and a travel health certificate, then rides to Maine in a climate-controlled delivery vehicle or in the cabin with a flight nanny to the Jetport or the airport nearest you. We confirm the timing with you and keep you updated.

Most flights into Maine run 1 to 2 hours, depending on where the breeder is located and which airport you choose. Your puppy stays with the flight nanny the entire time and rides in the cabin, never in cargo.

Sometimes, yes. When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery. Because our breeders are located in different areas and we protect their privacy, visits are arranged one family at a time rather than offered as open appointments.
