THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Iowa Families Choose HonestPet

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise litters inside their own homes, not in the kennel barns Iowa is known for. Puppies raised around kids, doorbells, and kitchen noise settle in quickly, whether they're moving into an East Village apartment, a Waukee subdivision, or a farmhouse outside Pella.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Health-Tested Parents

Most of our puppies’ parents are DNA tested. Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad, so you can review this information before choosing your puppy.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll tell you which puppy fits your life, even if it isn't the one you first picked. A calm pup for a downtown Des Moines condo, a bolder one for a Johnston family with a fenced yard and three kids.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Cavapoos Make Great Iowa Family Dogs

A Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle: the Cavalier's affectionate, easygoing temperament and the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat. They're sized for a Des Moines apartment or an Ankeny yard, they ride well in the car, and they take an Iowa winter and a humid July in stride as long as the couch is involved.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Most of our Cavapoos finish between 10 and 23 pounds. That's within the pet weight limits most Iowa apartment communities and HOAs set, and an easy size to carry across an icy driveway or lift into the truck for a trip to the lake.

Low-Shedding Coat

Their wavy or curly coats shed very little. No dog is fully hypoallergenic, but many people with mild allergies live comfortably with a Cavapoo.

Gentle With Kids

Cavapoos are patient and gentle, which is why so many families with young children choose them. Supervised play is still a must.

Quick to Train

Poodle smarts plus a real wish to please. Short, consistent sessions go a long way with potty training and basic manners.

Moderate Energy

Cavapoos are moderate-energy dogs. A couple of walks and some fetch keep them happy, and they'll gladly join you around Gray's Lake, on the High Trestle Trail, or at the Raccoon River dog park. In a January cold snap, a sweater, booties, and a quick loop around the block are plenty.

Made for Company

Cavapoos want to be wherever you are. They're a great fit for work-from-home schedules. If you're gone 10 hours a day, plan on a dog walker.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Cavapoo Home

Most Iowa families choose free ground delivery, which brings your puppy right to your door. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny can carry your puppy in the cabin to one of five airports serving Iowa. Our team sets the date with you and sends updates from departure until your puppy is home.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is our first choice for Iowa. It's a reasonable drive, and puppies ride in a climate-controlled vehicle with water and potty stops along I-80 or I-35. Cavapoos are relaxed travelers, and most sleep through the trip and wake up ready to meet everyone.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Want to meet your puppy first? When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can arrange an in-person visit before delivery to Iowa.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any airport we serve for Iowa. Your puppy flies in the cabin with the nanny, never in cargo, so the winter cold-weather embargoes airlines place on checked pets don't apply. The nanny hands your puppy to you at arrivals.

Not sure which option fits? Send us a message and we'll help you sort it out.

HEALTH FIRST

Cavapoo Parent Health Screening

Cavaliers and Poodles each have known inherited health risks, which is why we’re working toward having all of our breeders complete genetic screening for the conditions most relevant to the Cavapoo breed. Testing varies by parent; ask to review available results for the parents of any puppy you’re considering.

Parents

Curly Coat / Dry Eye Syndrome

A Cavalier condition that shows up in a puppy's first weeks. Affected puppies can't make normal tears and develop a rough coat, flaky skin, and cracked, sore paw pads. It's only a risk when both parents have Cavalier ancestry, as in F2 and multigeneration Cavapoos.

Parents

Degenerative Myelopathy

A slow spinal cord disease that usually doesn't appear until later in life, often after age 8. It starts with wobbly, dragging back legs and gradually leads to hind-end weakness. It isn't painful, but there's no cure, so testing the parents is the best protection.

Parents

Episodic Falling Syndrome

Another Cavalier condition. When an affected dog gets excited, stressed, or exercises hard, its muscles stiffen and it may freeze mid-step or fall over. The dog stays fully awake through each episode. Signs usually start before the first birthday.

Parents

Neonatal Encephalopathy

A Poodle condition that affects newborns. Affected puppies are born small and weak, have trouble with balance, and often develop seizures. Because they rarely survive their first few weeks, this test is about pairing parents so no puppy is born with it.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

One of the more common inherited conditions in Toy and Miniature Poodles. The retina slowly breaks down, starting with night blindness in adulthood and often leading to full blindness. It isn't painful and most dogs adjust well, but the vision loss can't be reversed.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

A bleeding disorder where blood doesn't clot as well as it should. Many dogs with it live normal lives, but they can bleed longer after surgery, an injury, or losing baby teeth. Knowing the parents' results helps your vet plan ahead for spay or neuter.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before any puppy leaves for Iowa, a licensed vet performs a complete exam: heart and lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, skin, and a hernia check. The vet issues a health certificate for interstate travel, and a copy of the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your Iowa vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Each puppy is current on core vaccines for their age and has been dewormed on a regular schedule since their first weeks. Your vet will finish the series, including the rabies shot Iowa requires by 6 months of age, which most vets give around 3 to 4 months and which your city will ask for at licensing. Ticks and heartworm are both common in Iowa, so we recommend starting prevention at your first visit. Every puppy is microchipped, and we'll help you register the chip in your name.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Cavapoo Puppy FAQs

Our Cavapoo puppies are $2,500 to $6,000, depending on size, coat, and color. The price of each puppy includes vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, a vet exam, lifetime training and support, a digital copy of their records, and free ground delivery to your home.

Yes. Most families choose free ground delivery straight to their door. Flight nanny delivery is also available to the airports serving Iowa, including Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, the Quad Cities, Sioux City, and Omaha for Council Bluffs and Southwest Iowa, depending on route and availability.

While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Cavapoos are known for their low-shedding coats and can be a good choice for some families with mild dog allergies. How much a Cavapoo sheds can vary based on their individual coat genetics and generation, with some puppies inheriting more of the Poodle’s low-shedding coat characteristics. If allergies or shedding are a concern, review each puppy’s generation and coat type, and talk with our team about which available Cavapoo may be the best fit for your family.

Most Cavapoos weigh 10 to 23 pounds and stand 9 to 14 inches tall as adults. Size depends mostly on the Poodle parent. We list an estimated adult weight for every puppy we have available.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Pick an available puppy then send us an inquiry. After we talk, a $349 deposit holds your puppy. The balance is due before go-home day.

We’re working toward having every parent DNA tested and screened for relevant heart, knee, and eye conditions before breeding. Every puppy also receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Available parent health and genetic testing results can be viewed on our Parents page.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

IOWA QUESTIONS

Getting a Cavapoo in Iowa: Your Questions Answered

What Iowa families ask us most, from how we differ from the state's commercial kennels to city licensing and airport pickups.

Legally, yes. Iowa has no statewide ban on pet store puppy sales, and a 2017 state preemption law keeps cities from passing their own. Because Iowa is also one of the largest commercial-breeding states in the country, store puppies here often come from very large kennels nearby. What a store can't show you is the home the puppy was raised in or the parents' health testing. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Iowa families directly with vetted breeders who raise puppies in their homes and share all of that up front.

For most people, yes. Cavapoos are small, fairly quiet, and don't need a yard, which suits a downtown Des Moines apartment or an East Village loft. Check your lease for weight limits and pet fees, and plan on a few walks a day, with shorter ones in a January cold snap. They're just as happy in a Waukee house with a fenced yard.

It depends on the city. Iowa doesn't issue a statewide dog license, but Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Davenport, and most other cities require an annual license tied to a current rabies certificate. Statewide, every dog must be vaccinated against rabies by 6 months of age. Check your city clerk or animal control page for fees, which are lower for spayed and neutered dogs.

Once you reserve your puppy, HonestPet schedules the trip from the breeder's home to yours. Your puppy gets a final vet exam and a travel health certificate, then rides to Iowa in a climate-controlled delivery vehicle or in the cabin with a flight nanny to the airport nearest you. We confirm the timing with you and send updates along the way.

Flights into Iowa are usually short, about 1 to 2 hours, depending on where the breeder is located and which airport you choose. Your puppy stays with the flight nanny the entire time and rides in the cabin, never in cargo.

In some cases, yes. When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery. Because our breeders are located in different areas and we protect their privacy, visits are arranged individually rather than offered as open appointments.
