THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Rhode Island Families Choose HonestPet for a French Bulldog

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise French Bulldogs in the house, where the puppies learn the sound of a doorbell, a dishwasher, and a kid's cleats on the kitchen floor before they're old enough to leave. A Frenchie that spent its first eight weeks in a family kitchen walks into an East Side triple-decker, a Barrington colonial, or a Narragansett beach house and treats it as home from the first evening.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Parent Health Records

Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health records, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments; screening coverage varies by parent.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll point you to the puppy that fits, not the one with the best photo. For a couple in a Federal Hill apartment who'll carry the dog to every patio on Atwells, that's the pup that breathes quietest; for an East Greenwich family with a yard and three kids, it's the sturdier one that wants to be in on everything.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

STATEWIDE DELIVERY

French Bulldog Puppies Delivered Anywhere in Rhode Island

A HonestPet French Bulldog is born and raised in a vetted breeder's home; stores and brokers never enter into it. In the smallest state, nearly every family takes free ground delivery to the door, though a flight nanny can bring the puppy in the cabin into T.F. Green or Logan. Flat-faced breeds are barred from cargo, so cabin is the only flight we book, and summer handoffs in South County are timed for early morning.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why French Bulldogs Fit Rhode Island, Federal Hill to the Shore

A French Bulldog is a stocky 20 to 28 pounds with bat ears, a wrinkled face, and a sense of humor, and it wants what a Providence triple-decker or a Warwick ranch offers: a short walk, a warm couch, and company. It barely barks and doesn't need a yard. Rhode Island's weather is mostly on the breed's side, with a few humid weeks each summer when a flat face can't cool a dog and a few months each winter when a thin coat needs a sweater. A September evening on the Newport Cliff Walk, a Frenchie has it as good as anywhere.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Our French Bulldogs land between 20 and 28 pounds. That's under the pet cap in most downtown Providence buildings, fits a carrier for the Block Island ferry, and is light enough to carry across hot sand at Narragansett or up the stairs of an East Side triple-decker, which you'll do while the puppy is growing to protect its spine.

Short, Smooth Coat

French Bulldogs have short, smooth coats and do shed. Regular brushing helps manage loose hair, and their skin folds need gentle cleaning and drying. They are not a hypoallergenic breed.

Playful Family Companions

Frenchies are playful and affectionate. Supervise interactions with children, teach gentle handling, and give your puppy a quiet place to rest. Keep play short and cool rather than encouraging rough play or long chases.

Patient, Positive Training

A Frenchie can be clever and independent. Use short sessions, rewards, and consistent potty routines to build good habits. Our lifetime training support helps you work through puppy manners without harsh methods.

Short Walks, Cool Play

A Frenchie's entire exercise program is two short walks and a little play on the rug. In a Rhode Island July, walk early and after dark and skip the beach at noon; in January, a fitted sweater, ten-minute walks, and a wipe-down for road salt. The East Bay Bike Path is a perfect Frenchie walk in October. On Narragansett Bay, at Scarborough Beach, or on a boat out of Newport, a life vest goes on before the puppy is near the water, because French Bulldogs cannot swim and the surf at Narragansett will take one off its feet.

Made for Company

French Bulldogs enjoy being near their people. Build up time alone gradually, and arrange company and potty breaks when you will be away for long stretches. An air-conditioned home and a predictable routine help them stay comfortable.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your French Bulldog Home

Nearly all Rhode Island families take free ground delivery to the door, which for a flat-faced puppy is a short, climate-controlled drive and the easiest trip there is. If you'd prefer to fly, a flight nanny carries your Frenchie in the cabin to one of two airports serving Rhode Island; cargo is closed to French Bulldogs by airline rule, and by ours. Either way, the date is set with you and the updates run until the puppy is inside.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is our first choice for a Frenchie, and Rhode Island is the shortest statewide run we make: cooled vehicle in summer, heated in winter, a ventilated crate, brief stops, and a handoff timed around the heat or moved into the hallway when it's below freezing. Most puppies nap from the breeder's driveway to yours and never see T.F. Green.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Hoping to meet your puppy first? If the breeder's location and schedule make it possible, HonestPet can help arrange an in-person visit before your Frenchie travels to Rhode Island.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 into any airport we serve for Rhode Island. Your Frenchie rides in a ventilated soft carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin, the only way this breed should ever fly, and T.F. Green and Logan between them take a nonstop from most breeder regions, which keeps a brachycephalic puppy's transit short. The nanny meets you at arrivals and hands over the puppy.

HEALTH FIRST

French Bulldog Health and Parent Screening

French Bulldogs need particular attention to breathing, heat tolerance, and spine and joint health. Parent screening and available records vary by dog; ask to review the findings for the parents of the puppy you are considering. A DNA test or veterinary exam is not a guarantee against future breathing or mobility problems, and your vet can help plan ongoing care.

Parents & puppies

Airway and Breathing

Flat-faced dogs can have narrowed nostrils and other airway problems. Ask what breathing assessments are available for the parents, and discuss your puppy's breathing with your vet. Snoring and poor exercise tolerance deserve attention rather than being dismissed as normal.

Parents & puppies

Spine and Back Health

Ask about the parents' spine-health history and any available veterinary findings. French Bulldogs can develop spinal problems; keeping them lean and using ramps instead of repeated jumps can help with daily care, but does not eliminate the risk.

Parents & puppies

Hips and Knees

Review any available hip and knee assessments for the parents with our team. Your vet can check your puppy's gait and joints and advise on suitable exercise. Do not assume every parent has had the same examinations.

Parents & puppies

Eye Health

Ask which parent eye examinations or genetic results are available. Frenchies' prominent eyes need care; contact your vet about redness, squinting, or discharge, and protect the eyes during play.

Puppies

Skin Folds and Care

Discuss skin-fold cleaning and any signs of irritation with your vet. Keep folds clean and dry, watch for itching or redness, and ask for guidance before using skin products. Short coats still need regular brushing.

Parents

Parent Health Records

Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health and genetic records before reserving. Genetic results do not replace a clinical assessment of breathing, spine, or joint health.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Every Frenchie bound for Rhode Island gets a full exam from a licensed vet before departure, and the vet looks hardest at what goes wrong in this breed: nostril openings, breathing at rest and after play, spine alignment, hips and knees, and the skin folds. The vet issues the certificate of veterinary inspection Rhode Island requires for dogs entering the state, and the exam notes go into the puppy's digital records for your Providence, Warwick, or South County vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Core vaccines are complete for the puppy's age, and deworming has run on a set routine since the early weeks. Your Rhode Island vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot the state requires by 3 months and that your city or town clerk will ask about at licensing, and should start tick prevention immediately, since Lyme runs heavy from the Blackstone Valley to South County. Ask about a winter weight check, since a Frenchie that spends January on the couch gains fast and extra weight narrows a short airway. Chipping is done before the trip, and we put the registration in your name at the handoff.

Green and Boston Logan for the Blackstone Valley, depending on route and availability, with the puppy at the nanny's feet in the cabin. A French Bulldog never travels in the hold.

Parent testing varies by breeder and by dog. Every puppy receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

THE JOURNEY HOME

How Frenchie Delivery to Rhode Island Works

Free ground delivery to the door is how nearly every Rhode Island French Bulldog arrives, and in the smallest state it's quicker than any airport run. If you'd rather fly, the flight nanny brings the puppy in the cabin to one of two airports serving Rhode Island, carrier at their feet in cabin air the entire trip.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door. The handler walks the puppy and its starter bag to your door and covers the season's basics before leaving, humidity in July or salt and cold in January. In a downtown Providence building they'll coordinate with the front desk in advance, and when it's below freezing the handoff happens in the hallway, not on the sidewalk.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

RHODE ISLAND QUESTIONS

Getting a French Bulldog in Rhode Island: Your Questions Answered

Apartment living, beach summers, town licenses, pet store rules, and how the trip works: the questions Rhode Island Frenchie families ask us most.

It depends on the town. There's no statewide ban in Rhode Island, though a handful of towns have passed their own, and any pet shop still selling puppies has to post the breeder's name and sourcing records under state law, which for a Frenchie usually traces to a large Midwestern kennel with no airway screening. A record taped to a cage still doesn't show you the mother, the home, or the parents' breathing. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Rhode Island families directly with vetted breeders who raise French Bulldogs at home, share the parents' screening, and deliver to your door.

One of the best in the city. A Frenchie rarely barks, needs very little exercise, and is content in a Fox Point one-bedroom or a Federal Hill flat. Two Providence notes: a French Bulldog's spine doesn't love stairs, so carry the puppy up and down a triple-decker until it's grown; and a humid July week calls for air conditioning and early walks. Most Providence buildings set a weight cap well above a Frenchie, but confirm yours, and plan on a dog walker if you're downtown all day.

Yes. Rhode Island licenses every dog through the city or town clerk, renewed each year, usually with a spring deadline and a late fee after it. Bring a current rabies certificate, which Rhode Island requires by 3 months, and expect a lower fee for a spayed or neutered Frenchie.

Once you've reserved, HonestPet arranges the trip from the breeder's home to yours in Rhode Island. A final vet exam, breathing checked at rest and after play, comes first; then the puppy rides in a climate-controlled vehicle or in the cabin with a flight nanny, and cargo is never used. The schedule reaches you before departure, the handoff stays out of the heat or the cold, and a message arrives at each stage.

Short, usually 1 to 2 hours into T.F. Green or Logan, often nonstop, which is the easy case for a brachycephalic puppy. For the whole flight the puppy is in a ventilated carrier at the nanny's feet, never in the hold. For nearly every Rhode Island address, though, ground delivery to the door is faster.

In some cases. If the breeder's location and schedule line up, HonestPet can set up a visit where you meet the puppy and the parents and hear how the adults breathe after a bit of play. We keep breeder locations private and they live in different states, so visits are arranged one family at a time rather than offered as open hours.
