THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Ohio Families Choose HonestPet for a Poodle

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Ohio families know what a kennel-raised puppy looks like, and a Poodle shows it more than most, because a Poodle learns everything about the world in its first eight weeks. Ours spend them in a kitchen, around kids, the TV, and the back door, so your puppy arrives in a German Village rowhouse, a Tremont loft, or a Mason two-story already on a routine and ready to learn yours.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Parent Health Records

Review the testing status listed for each puppy's mom and dad, and ask our team for available eye, knee, hip, and genetic screening records. Testing varies by parent; knowing what is documented helps you make an informed choice.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll help you pick the size before the puppy. A Toy at 4 to 6 pounds is the dog for a Short North condo or a couple in Worthington; a Miniature at 10 to 15 pounds is the dog for a Dublin family whose kids want a playmate that can take a tumble and join a bike ride. Then we'll tell you which puppy in that litter has the right temperament, even if it isn't the one with the best photo.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

STATEWIDE DELIVERY

Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppies Delivered Anywhere in Ohio

Every HonestPet Poodle, Miniature or Toy, is raised in a vetted breeder's home; the kennels and brokers that fill Ohio's pet stores have nothing to do with it. Ohio families choose free ground delivery to the door or a flight nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin into Columbus, Cleveland, CVG, or a regional airport; both sizes fit the under-seat carrier with room to spare, and the puppy arrives brushed, with its first groom done.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Miniature and Toy Poodles Fit Ohio, Condo to Cul-de-Sac

A Poodle is the same dog in either size, curly, quick, low-shedding, and attached to its person, and an Ohio year suits it: the coat grows in for a lake-effect winter and clips short for a humid July. A Toy, under 10 inches and 4 to 6 pounds, is the dog for a Short North condo, a Lakewood apartment, and a retiree in Worthington; a Miniature, 10 to 15 inches and 10 to 15 pounds, is the dog for a Dublin or Mason family with kids, a yard, and a Hocking Hills weekend. Both need a groomer every four to six weeks, both housetrain in days, and both will announce the mail carrier until taught not to, which takes a Poodle about a week.

Apartment-Friendly Size

A HonestPet Toy finishes at 4 to 6 pounds and a Miniature at 10 to 15. Both clear the pet limits in Columbus and Cleveland buildings, both fit a carrier for the drive to Put-in-Bay, and a Toy fits in a tote. In a lake-effect January in Cleveland or Toledo, a Toy wants a coat and booties; a Miniature wants its paws wiped and a shorter loop.

Low-Shedding Coat

Poodles have curly, low-shedding coats that need regular brushing and professional grooming. No dog is completely hypoallergenic; families with allergies should spend time around Poodles before deciding.

Choose the Size for Your Family

Miniatures can be a better match for families with children, while a tiny Toy needs especially gentle handling. Supervise every interaction, teach children to let the puppy rest, and choose temperament as carefully as size.

Quick to Train

Miniature and Toy Poodles respond well to short, positive training sessions. Practice house training, calm greetings, and quiet hallway behavior consistently, and add puzzle games to keep their quick minds occupied.

Exercise to Match Their Size

A Miniature Poodle wants a real walk and a game of fetch every day, and it will happily do the Olentangy Trail, the Towpath, or a Hocking Hills loop on a weekend. A Toy is happy with a pair of short walks and some play on the rug. Both swim, so Lake Erie and the Hocking Hills swimming holes are fair game with you in the water, though a Toy wears a vest in the lake's chop. Two Ohio rules: a curly coat hides ticks, so check the dog after every walk in grass from April on, and a Toy stays on leash in the suburbs, where hawks and the occasional coyote take dogs that size.

Made for Company

Both sizes enjoy being close to their people. Build up alone time gradually, provide enrichment, and arrange a dog walker or sitter when your schedule keeps you away for long stretches.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Poodle Home

Most Ohio families take free ground delivery to the door, with the puppy brushed, fed on schedule, and handed over with the breeder's grooming notes. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny carries your Poodle in the cabin to one of six airports serving Ohio, and a Toy or a Miniature is so far under the airline limit that the carrier is the easy part. Either way, we agree on a date with you and send updates until the puppy is home.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is the gentlest trip for a Poodle puppy, and for a Toy it's the one we recommend: a short Midwestern drive at an even temperature, water and a small meal every few hours because a tiny puppy's blood sugar drops faster than a bigger dog's, and a handoff at your door rather than a terminal.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Would you like to meet your puppy first? When the breeder's location and timing make it possible, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit, which is also the moment to see the parents' coats and ask what size the litter is likely to finish at.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any airport we serve for Ohio. Your Poodle flies in a soft carrier under the seat in front of the nanny, never in cargo, and with both sizes so far under the in-cabin limit, the carrier is the easy part. The nanny keeps a Toy puppy fed on schedule through the flight and hands the dog to you at arrivals, in person.

HEALTH FIRST

Miniature and Toy Poodle Health Screening

Miniature and Toy Poodles have breed-specific health considerations. Ask to review available screening results for your puppy's parents, including eye, knee, and hip evaluations where appropriate. Testing varies by parent, and no screening or genetic test can guarantee a puppy will never develop a health problem.

Parents

Eye Evaluations

Ask for available eye examination records for both parents. An eye exam can identify some inherited or developing eye problems, but a normal result is not a lifetime guarantee of healthy vision.

Parents

Knee Evaluations

Luxating patellas can affect small Poodles. Ask about available parental knee evaluations and discuss the results with your veterinarian; screening helps assess risk without ruling out every future knee problem.

Parents

Hip Evaluations

Hip health is an important discussion, especially for Miniature Poodles. Ask which evaluations are appropriate for the parents and whether results are available to review with your veterinarian.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

Some forms of progressive retinal atrophy can affect Miniature and Toy Poodles. Where relevant genetic results are available, ask which variant was tested and how the parents were paired. A genetic panel does not replace clinical eye exams.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

This inherited bleeding disorder can occur in Poodles. Ask whether relevant parental genetic testing is available and share any results with your vet when planning surgery or other procedures.

Parents

Records and Size-Specific Care

Review the health history and documented adult size of both parents. Discuss dental care, feeding needs, and any family history of health concerns with the breeder and your vet, especially when considering a very small Toy puppy.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before a Poodle leaves for Ohio, a licensed vet gives it a full exam built around the breed's known issues: the knees, since luxating patellas are the most common orthopedic problem in both sizes, the eyes, the bite and baby teeth, which crowd in a Toy's small jaw, the heart, and in a Toy, the trachea. The vet issues the health certificate for the trip, and the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your Ohio vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

All core vaccines due for the puppy's age have been given, and deworming has run on a routine from the early weeks. Your Ohio vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot state law requires before licensing at 3 months, starts tick prevention in spring, and should talk with you about a harness instead of a collar, especially for a Toy, and a grooming schedule from the first month, because a Poodle that learns the groomer early is a calm adult on the table. Microchipping happens before the puppy travels, and we help get the chip registered to you.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppy FAQs

Prices vary by puppy, size, and other individual characteristics. Check the current price on each available listing and ask our team what is included before reserving. Free ground delivery to Ohio is available as described on this page.

Yes, in both sizes. Most Ohio families take free ground delivery to the door, and for a Toy puppy it's the trip we'd pick. Flight nanny delivery is also available into Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Akron-Canton, and Toledo, depending on route and availability, with the puppy in the cabin beside the nanny; a Miniature or Toy Poodle is well under every airline's in-cabin limit.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. Poodles have low-shedding coats, but allergens are also found in saliva and skin flakes. Spend time around Poodles before choosing a puppy if allergies are a concern, and plan on regular brushing and grooming.

Our Toy Poodles typically finish at 4 to 6 pounds and our Miniatures at 10 to 15 pounds. Adult size varies by puppy; review the listing's estimated adult weight and ask about both parents before making your choice.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Choose an available puppy and send us an inquiry. Our team can help you review the puppy, meet by video, and confirm the reservation deposit, total price, and payment schedule before you proceed.

Ask our team for available parent eye, knee, hip, and genetic screening results; testing varies by parent. Each puppy's veterinary, vaccine, deworming, and microchip records help your Ohio vet plan ongoing care. Screening cannot eliminate every inherited or future health risk.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

THE JOURNEY HOME

How Poodle Delivery to Ohio Works

Free ground delivery to the door is how most of our Ohio Poodles arrive, and for a Toy it's the gentlest option. If you'd prefer to fly, a flight nanny carries the puppy in the cabin to one of six airports serving Ohio, with a Toy's feeding schedule kept through the flight.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door. The handler walks the puppy to your door with the starter bag, a brush, and the breeder's grooming notes, and explains the first-week feeding schedule, which matters most for a Toy. In a downtown Columbus or Cleveland building they'll meet you in the lobby.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

OHIO QUESTIONS

Getting a Miniature or Toy Poodle in Ohio: Your Questions Answered

Which size to choose, the kennel question, winter, county licenses, and how delivery works: the questions Ohio Poodle families ask most.

Legally, yes. Ohio's 2018 law lets pet stores sell puppies under state sourcing rules and blocks cities from passing their own bans, and Poodles and doodles are the main product of the state's large Holmes County kennels. But a store can't show you the parents, the home the puppy was raised in, or whether anyone ever tested the parents' eyes and knees. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Ohio families directly with vetted breeders who raise Miniature and Toy Poodles at home and share all of that before you reserve.

Match the size to the household. A Toy, at 4 to 6 pounds, is the better fit for a condo, a retiree, and a home without small children, since a toddler can hurt a Toy by accident. A Miniature, at 10 to 15 pounds, is the better fit for a family with kids, a yard, and weekends at the lake or in the Hocking Hills. Both housetrain fast, both need a groomer every four to six weeks, both need tick checks after a walk in grass, and in a lake-effect January a Toy wears a coat and booties while a Miniature mostly needs its paws wiped.

Yes. Ohio licenses dogs by county from 3 months on, through the county auditor, with renewal each year between December 1 and January 31 and a doubled fee after that. The license is separate from the rabies tag, which most Ohio cities and counties also require, and the fee is the same for either size.

Once you reserve your Poodle, HonestPet coordinates the trip from the breeder's home to your door in Ohio. The puppy is vet-checked, brushed, and fed before it leaves, then travels in a climate-controlled vehicle with feeding stops every few hours, or in the cabin with a flight nanny. You'll know the schedule ahead of departure and get an update at every step.

A flight into Ohio is 1 to 2 hours, depending on where the breeder is and which airport you pick. The puppy rides at the nanny's feet in the cabin, never in the hold, and a Toy eats a small meal before boarding and another after landing so its blood sugar stays level. For most of the state, ground delivery is just as quick door to door.

Sometimes. When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can arrange a visit so you can meet your puppy and the parents and see what size the adults finished at. Our breeders are in different parts of the country and value their privacy, so visits are set up one family at a time rather than offered as open hours.
