THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why New York Families Choose HonestPet for a Poodle

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

A Poodle is the second-smartest breed in the world, which means a Poodle raised in a kennel learns kennel habits and a Poodle raised in a kitchen learns the dishwasher, the doorbell, and the toddler. Our breeders raise their litters at home, so your puppy arrives in a Tribeca loft, a Park Slope brownstone, or a Pittsford colonial already fluent in household life and ready to learn yours.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Parent Health Records

Review the testing status listed for each puppy's mom and dad, and ask our team for available eye, knee, hip, and genetic screening records. Testing varies by parent; knowing what is documented helps you make an informed choice.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll help you choose the size before we help you choose the puppy. A Toy Poodle at 4 to 6 pounds is a lap dog and a tote-bag commuter; a Miniature at 10 to 15 pounds is a dog that can keep up with kids and a weekend hike. We'll tell you which fits your life, and then which puppy in that litter has the temperament for a quiet couple in Riverdale or a loud house in Syosset.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

STATEWIDE DELIVERY

Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppies Delivered Anywhere in New York State

Every HonestPet Poodle, Miniature or Toy, is raised in a vetted breeder's home; since New York's pet stores stopped selling dogs in December 2024, a breeder is the only route anyway. New York families choose free ground delivery to the door or a flight nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin, and both sizes fit the under-seat carrier with room to spare. Either way, the puppy arrives with its coat brushed out and its first groom already behind it.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Miniature and Toy Poodles Fit New York, in Either Size

A Poodle is a Poodle at any size: the same curly, low-shedding coat, the same quick mind, the same preference for being wherever you are. The difference is scale. A Toy Poodle stands under 10 inches and finishes at 4 to 6 pounds, which makes it the ideal dog for a one-bedroom and a tote bag on the 6 train, and a fragile one for a house with toddlers. A Miniature stands 10 to 15 inches and finishes at 10 to 15 pounds, sturdy enough for kids, a Prospect Park run, and a Catskills trail. Both need a groomer every four to six weeks, both learn tricks faster than you can invent them, and both will tell you when someone's in the hallway.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Our Toy Poodles finish at 4 to 6 pounds and our Miniatures at 10 to 15. Both clear every co-op weight limit in the city, both fit the enclosed carrier the MTA requires on the subway, and a Toy fits one you can sling over a shoulder. For Buffalo and Rochester winters, the Miniature's extra size holds heat a little better; a Toy wants a sweater from the first frost.

Low-Shedding Coat

Poodles have curly, low-shedding coats that need regular brushing and professional grooming. No dog is completely hypoallergenic; families with allergies should spend time around Poodles before deciding.

Choose the Size for Your Family

Miniatures can be a better match for families with children, while a tiny Toy needs especially gentle handling. Supervise every interaction, teach children to let the puppy rest, and choose temperament as carefully as size.

Quick to Train

Miniature and Toy Poodles respond well to short, positive training sessions. Practice house training, calm greetings, and quiet hallway behavior consistently, and add puzzle games to keep their quick minds occupied.

Exercise to Match Their Size

A Miniature Poodle wants real exercise: a long walk, a game of fetch, a run in the Long Meadow, and it will happily do a weekend hike in the Hudson Highlands. A Toy is satisfied with a couple of short walks and a game in the living room. Both are natural swimmers, bred from water retrievers, so a Toy at a Long Island beach or a Mini on a Finger Lakes dock is fine in the water with you, though a Toy in a current or a cold lake should wear a vest. Keep a Toy off the edge of the couch until it's grown; a four-pound puppy breaks bones that a fifteen-pound one shrugs off.

Made for Company

Both sizes enjoy being close to their people. Build up alone time gradually, provide enrichment, and arrange a dog walker or sitter when your schedule keeps you away for long stretches.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Poodle Home

Most New York families go with our free ground delivery, which brings the puppy to your door with its coat brushed and its starter bag packed. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny carries your Poodle in the cabin to one of seven airports serving New York, and a Toy or a Miniature is light enough that the nanny barely notices the carrier. Either way, our team sets the date with you and sends updates until the puppy is on your lap.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is the gentlest trip for a Poodle puppy, and especially for a Toy, whose small size makes it the most sensitive to a long day: the handler keeps the vehicle at an even temperature, stops for water and a meal on schedule, since a tiny puppy's blood sugar runs low faster than a bigger dog's, and arrives at your door rather than a terminal.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Want to meet your puppy first? When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit, which is also a good time to see the parents' coats groomed and ask about the size the puppy is likely to finish at.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any airport we serve for New York. Your Poodle rides in a soft carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin, and because both sizes are well under the airline weight limits, this is the easiest breed we fly. The nanny feeds a Toy puppy on schedule through the flight and hands the dog to you in person at arrivals.

Not sure which option fits? Send us a message and we'll help you sort it out.

HEALTH FIRST

Miniature and Toy Poodle Health Screening

Miniature and Toy Poodles have breed-specific health considerations. Ask to review available screening results for your puppy's parents, including eye, knee, and hip evaluations where appropriate. Testing varies by parent, and no screening or genetic test can guarantee a puppy will never develop a health problem.

Parents

Eye Evaluations

Ask for available eye examination records for both parents. An eye exam can identify some inherited or developing eye problems, but a normal result is not a lifetime guarantee of healthy vision.

Parents

Knee Evaluations

Luxating patellas can affect small Poodles. Ask about available parental knee evaluations and discuss the results with your veterinarian; screening helps assess risk without ruling out every future knee problem.

Parents

Hip Evaluations

Hip health is an important discussion, especially for Miniature Poodles. Ask which evaluations are appropriate for the parents and whether results are available to review with your veterinarian.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

Some forms of progressive retinal atrophy can affect Miniature and Toy Poodles. Where relevant genetic results are available, ask which variant was tested and how the parents were paired. A genetic panel does not replace clinical eye exams.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

This inherited bleeding disorder can occur in Poodles. Ask whether relevant parental genetic testing is available and share any results with your vet when planning surgery or other procedures.

Parents

Records and Size-Specific Care

Review the health history and documented adult size of both parents. Discuss dental care, feeding needs, and any family history of health concerns with the breeder and your vet, especially when considering a very small Toy puppy.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before a Poodle leaves for New York, a licensed vet gives it a full exam with the breed's known issues in focus: the knees, since luxating patellas are the most common orthopedic problem in both sizes, the eyes, the bite and baby teeth, which crowd in a Toy's small jaw, the heart, and in a Toy, the trachea. The vet issues the health certificate required for travel, and the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your New York vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Core vaccines are current for the puppy's age, and deworming has run on a schedule since the first weeks. Your New York vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot the state requires by 4 months, and should talk with you about two Poodle-specific habits: a harness instead of a collar, especially for a Toy, to protect the trachea, and a grooming schedule from the first month, because a Poodle coat mats fast and a puppy that learns the groomer early is a calm adult on the table. Every puppy is microchipped before travel, and we help you register the chip in your name.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Miniature and Toy Poodle Puppy FAQs

Prices vary by puppy, size, and other individual characteristics. Check the current price on each available listing and ask our team what is included before reserving. Free ground delivery to New York is available as described on this page.

Yes, in both sizes. Most families choose free ground delivery to their door, and for a Toy puppy that's the trip we recommend. Flight nanny delivery is also available into JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo, depending on route and availability, with the puppy in the cabin beside the nanny; a Miniature or Toy Poodle is well under every airline's in-cabin limit.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. Poodles have low-shedding coats, but allergens are also found in saliva and skin flakes. Spend time around Poodles before choosing a puppy if allergies are a concern, and plan on regular brushing and grooming.

Our Toy Poodles typically finish at 4 to 6 pounds and our Miniatures at 10 to 15 pounds. Adult size varies by puppy; review the listing's estimated adult weight and ask about both parents before making your choice.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Choose an available puppy and send us an inquiry. Our team can help you review the puppy, meet by video, and confirm the reservation deposit, total price, and payment schedule before you proceed.

Ask our team for available parent eye, knee, hip, and genetic screening results; testing varies by parent. Each puppy's veterinary, vaccine, deworming, and microchip records help your New York vet plan ongoing care. Screening cannot eliminate every inherited or future health risk.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

THE JOURNEY HOME

How Poodle Delivery to New York Works

Free ground delivery to the door is how most of our New York Poodles arrive, and for a Toy it's the gentlest option. If you'd prefer to fly, a flight nanny carries the puppy in the cabin to one of seven airports serving New York, with a Toy's feeding schedule kept through the flight.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door. The handler brings the puppy to your door with the starter bag, a brush, and the grooming notes from the breeder, and walks you through the first-week feeding schedule, which matters more for a Toy than for any other puppy we deliver. In a doorman building, they'll meet you in the lobby.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

NEW YORK QUESTIONS

Getting a Miniature or Toy Poodle in New York: Your Questions Answered

Which size to choose, grooming in the city, barking in an apartment, licenses, and airport pickups: the questions New York Poodle families ask most.

No. Since December 15, 2024, New York pet stores have been prohibited from selling dogs, cats, and rabbits, so a Poodle in New York comes from a breeder, a shelter, or a rescue. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect New York families directly with vetted breeders who raise Miniature and Toy Poodles at home, share the parents' eye, knee, and hip testing, and coordinate delivery to your door.

Either works, and the choice is about your household more than your square footage. A Toy, at 4 to 6 pounds, is the better fit for a studio, a long commute with the dog in a carrier, and a quiet home without small children, since a toddler can hurt a Toy by accident. A Miniature, at 10 to 15 pounds, is the better fit for a family with kids, a dog that joins you on runs, and a bigger apartment or a house with a yard. Both are quick to housetrain, both need a groomer every four to six weeks, and both will bark at the hallway until you teach them not to, which, being Poodles, takes about a week.

Yes. New York State requires a license for every dog 4 months and older, and you'll need a current rabies certificate to apply. In the five boroughs you license through the NYC Department of Health; everywhere else, through your town or city clerk. Spayed and neutered dogs pay less, and the license is the same price for a four-pound Toy and a fifteen-pound Mini.

Once you reserve your Poodle, HonestPet coordinates the trip from the breeder's home to your door in New York. The puppy gets a final vet check, its coat brushed out, and a meal before departure, then rides in a climate-controlled delivery vehicle with scheduled feeding stops, or in the cabin with a flight nanny. You'll have the schedule before the puppy leaves and a message at each handoff.

Flight times typically run 1 to 3 hours, depending on the departure city and which airport you choose. Your Poodle stays in a carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin the whole way, never as cargo, and a Toy puppy gets a small meal mid-flight to keep its blood sugar steady, which is the one thing a tiny Poodle needs that a bigger puppy doesn't.

In some cases, yes. When the breeder's location, schedule, and availability allow, HonestPet can help set up an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy and the parents, and see for yourself what size the adults finished at. Because our breeders are in different areas and we protect their privacy, visits are arranged individually rather than offered as open public appointments.
