Bozeman's newcomers brought their French Bulldogs to a town that sits at 4,800 feet and sees 20 below, and the breed has done better than anyone expected, from inside a warm house. HonestPet connects Montana families with vetted breeders who raise Frenchie litters at home and screen both parents for the airway and spine problems the breed carries, which at Montana's elevations is the first thing to ask about. Every puppy arrives vet-checked and microchipped, with free ground delivery to any Montana address, Billings to Whitefish to Miles City.

THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE
Why Montana Families Trust HonestPet for a French Bulldog
Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.
Raised in Breeders' Homes
Our breeders raise French Bulldogs in the house, where the puppies learn the dishwasher, the woodstove door, and the toddler before they're old enough to leave. A Frenchie that spent its first eight weeks in a family kitchen settles into a Bozeman townhouse, a Billings ranch house, or a cabin outside Whitefish the first night; a kennel-raised one needs weeks.
Handled From Day Three
Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.
Parent Health Records
Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health records, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments; screening coverage varies by parent.
Honest Puppy Matching
We'll tell you which puppy breathes the easiest, which at Montana's elevation is the single most useful thing we can tell you about a French Bulldog, and which has the temperament for your home. The calmest, quietest breather for a couple in Big Sky at 7,000 feet; the sturdier one for a Billings family with kids and a yard, as long as the yard has shade in July and the walks are short in January.
A Guarantee in Writing
Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

STATEWIDE DELIVERY
French Bulldog Puppies Delivered Anywhere in Montana
Every French Bulldog HonestPet places is raised in a vetted breeder's home; we never work with pet stores or brokers. Montana families choose free ground delivery to the door or a flight nanny who carries the puppy in the cabin into Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, or another Montana airport. Flat-faced breeds can't fly cargo, so cabin is the only flight we book, and because most of the state sits above 3,000 feet, every Montana delivery comes with an altitude briefing for the first week.

Why French Bulldogs Can Work in Montana, With a Plan for the Air
A French Bulldog is 20 to 28 pounds of bat ears, wrinkles, and comic timing, and it wants a short walk, a long nap, and a spot by the woodstove, which is most of what a Montana winter offers anyway. Montana's challenges for the breed are the air and the cold. Billings sits at 3,100 feet, Bozeman at 4,800, Big Sky at 7,000, so a flat-faced dog gets a slow first week and no mountain trips until it's settled. The air is dry enough to chap a Frenchie's nose, the winter is cold enough to need an insulated coat and booties, and August smoke from fire season is hard on a short airway. A Montana Frenchie is an indoor dog with a good coat and a careful owner.
Apartment-Friendly Size
A grown HonestPet Frenchie weighs 20 to 28 pounds, which is under the pet cap in most downtown Bozeman and Billings apartment buildings, fits a carrier for a drive to Whitefish, and is small enough that an insulated dog coat fits well, which from October to April is the most important piece of gear a Montana Frenchie owns.
Short, Smooth Coat
French Bulldogs have short, smooth coats and do shed. Regular brushing helps manage loose hair, and their skin folds need gentle cleaning and drying. They are not a hypoallergenic breed.
Playful Family Companions
Frenchies are playful and affectionate. Supervise interactions with children, teach gentle handling, and give your puppy a quiet place to rest. Keep play short and cool rather than encouraging rough play or long chases.
Patient, Positive Training
A Frenchie can be clever and independent. Use short sessions, rewards, and consistent potty routines to build good habits. Our lifetime training support helps you work through puppy manners without harsh methods.
Short Walks, Cool Play
A Frenchie's whole exercise program is two short walks and some play on the rug, and at altitude that's exactly enough. In winter, it's five to ten minutes in a coat and booties and back inside; in summer, walk early and keep the puppy in the shade, since Montana sun at elevation burns a Frenchie's nose and pale belly. Trips to Big Sky, Glacier, or the Beartooths wait until the puppy has been in Montana a few weeks, and even then it's a stroll through town, not a trail. On Flathead, Canyon Ferry, or any river put-in, a life vest goes on first, because French Bulldogs sink and Montana water is cold even in July.
Made for Company
French Bulldogs enjoy being near their people. Build up time alone gradually, and arrange company and potty breaks when you will be away for long stretches. An air-conditioned home and a predictable routine help them stay comfortable.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME
Three Ways to Get Your French Bulldog Home
Most Montana families take free ground delivery straight to the door, and for a flat-faced puppy the long climb up from the plains is a gentle way to meet the altitude. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny carries your Frenchie in the cabin to one of six Montana airports; cargo isn't allowed for French Bulldogs, and we wouldn't use it regardless. Both ways, we confirm the date with you, send the altitude briefing before the puppy arrives, and keep the updates coming until it's home.
Most Popular
Ground Transport
Ground delivery is what we recommend for a Frenchie headed to Montana, partly because the climb is gradual: the puppy's body adjusts over hours in a climate-controlled vehicle rather than stepping off a plane into thin air. Ventilated crate, short stops, an overnight on the way, a heated vehicle in winter, and a handoff in the garage when it's below zero.
Pick Up at the Breeder
Prefer to meet your puppy before it travels? When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can arrange an in-person visit before your Frenchie heads to Montana.
Flight Nanny
A flat $799 to any Montana airport we serve. Your Frenchie flies in a ventilated soft carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin, the only way this breed is allowed to fly, and the nanny keeps the connection short and the first hour on the ground slow and quiet while the puppy meets the altitude. It also sidesteps the winter embargoes that keep checked pets off flights into Montana. The nanny meets you at arrivals and hands over the puppy.

HEALTH FIRST
French Bulldog Health and Parent Screening
French Bulldogs need particular attention to breathing, heat tolerance, and spine and joint health. Parent screening and available records vary by dog; ask to review the findings for the parents of the puppy you are considering. A DNA test or veterinary exam is not a guarantee against future breathing or mobility problems, and your vet can help plan ongoing care.
Parents & puppies
Airway and Breathing
Flat-faced dogs can have narrowed nostrils and other airway problems. Ask what breathing assessments are available for the parents, and discuss your puppy's breathing with your vet. Snoring and poor exercise tolerance deserve attention rather than being dismissed as normal.
Parents & puppies
Spine and Back Health
Ask about the parents' spine-health history and any available veterinary findings. French Bulldogs can develop spinal problems; keeping them lean and using ramps instead of repeated jumps can help with daily care, but does not eliminate the risk.
Parents & puppies
Hips and Knees
Review any available hip and knee assessments for the parents with our team. Your vet can check your puppy's gait and joints and advise on suitable exercise. Do not assume every parent has had the same examinations.
Parents & puppies
Eye Health
Ask which parent eye examinations or genetic results are available. Frenchies' prominent eyes need care; contact your vet about redness, squinting, or discharge, and protect the eyes during play.
Puppies
Skin Folds and Care
Discuss skin-fold cleaning and any signs of irritation with your vet. Keep folds clean and dry, watch for itching or redness, and ask for guidance before using skin products. Short coats still need regular brushing.
Parents
Parent Health Records
Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health and genetic records before reserving. Genetic results do not replace a clinical assessment of breathing, spine, or joint health.
Puppies
Vet Exam
Before a Frenchie leaves for Montana, a licensed vet gives it a complete exam with extra weight on the airway, because altitude magnifies any breathing issue: nostril width, breathing at rest and after a few minutes of play, the spine, the hips and knees, and the skin folds. The vet issues the certificate of veterinary inspection Montana requires for dogs entering the state, and the exam notes go into the puppy's digital records for your Billings, Bozeman, or Missoula vet.
Puppies
Shots, Deworming, Microchip
All core vaccines due for the puppy's age are on record, and deworming has run on a routine since the early weeks. Your Montana vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot your city will require before a license, since Montana has no statewide rabies law and leaves it to local rule, and should listen to the puppy's breathing at that first visit now that it's at altitude. Ask about a nose balm for the dry air, a plan for smoke season, a winter weight check, and keeping the puppy lean, because at elevation extra weight on a short airway costs more than anywhere. The microchip goes in before travel, and transferring it to your name is part of the handoff.
QUESTIONS ANSWERED
French Bulldog Puppy FAQs
Prices vary by puppy. See each available puppy’s listing for the current price, and ask our team to explain the total before reserving. Every puppy comes with a vet exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, digital records, lifetime training and support, and free ground delivery to your home.
Yes. Most Montana families take free ground delivery to the door, which lets a flat-faced puppy climb to altitude gradually in a climate-controlled vehicle. In-cabin flight nanny delivery is also available into Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, Great Falls, Helena, and Kalispell, depending on route and availability, with the puppy at the nanny's feet in the cabin. We never fly a French Bulldog as cargo.
Yes. French Bulldogs have short, smooth coats that shed, and they are not hypoallergenic. Regular brushing helps manage loose hair. If allergies are a concern, discuss the individual puppy with our team before deciding.
Our French Bulldogs typically finish between 20 and 28 pounds. Review the individual puppy’s estimated adult size and parent information with our team, and check your building's pet policy before reserving.
Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.
Pick an available puppy then send us an inquiry. After we talk, review the current reservation amount for your puppy before placing your deposit. The deposit goes toward the total price, and the balance is due before go-home day.
Parent testing varies by breeder and by dog. Review the available DNA testing status and health records for the puppy’s mom and dad with our team, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments. Every puppy receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Your vet can help plan ongoing French Bulldog care; screening does not guarantee freedom from future health problems.
Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.
Free door-to-door ground delivery is how most of our Montana French Bulldogs arrive, and for a flat-faced puppy it's also the easiest introduction to the altitude. If you'd prefer to fly, the flight nanny brings the puppy in the cabin to one of six Montana airports, carrier at their feet in cabin air the entire way.

What ground delivery looks like
We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
We bring your puppy to your door.Your handler brings the puppy and starter bag to your door and goes over the altitude briefing before leaving: a quiet first week, water everywhere, no Big Sky yet, and what a normal versus a labored breath sounds like. In a downtown Bozeman or Missoula building they'll coordinate access in advance, and when it's below zero the handoff happens in the garage, never in the driveway.
Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

MONTANA QUESTIONS
Getting a French Bulldog in Montana: Your Questions Answered
Altitude, cold, wildlife, smoke season, city licensing, and how a flat-faced puppy travels to the mountains: what Montana Frenchie families ask most.
Montana has no statewide ban, though very few Montana stores sell puppies at all, and the ones that do bring French Bulldogs in from large out-of-state kennels where nobody evaluated the parents' breathing, which at Montana's elevation is the one thing you'd most want to know. A store can't show you the mother or the home. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Montana families directly with vetted breeders who raise Frenchies at home, share the parents' screening, and deliver to your door.
Yes, because a Frenchie is the rare dog that has no interest in wildlife. It won't chase a deer, dig after a ground squirrel, or run off after a moose, and it would rather be on the porch than in the brush. The rules are about the Frenchie, not the wildlife: a slow first week while it adjusts to the altitude, a coat and short walks in winter, shade and water in summer, indoors during smoke season, and a leash in bear country, since a 25-pound dog is not a deterrent to anything. It's a town dog in a wild state, and it does very well as one.
That depends on your city. Montana has no statewide license, but Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, Great Falls, Helena, and most other cities issue their own once your Frenchie has a current rabies certificate. Montana is one of the few states with no statewide rabies law, so the rabies requirement is a city rule too. A spayed or neutered Frenchie pays the lower fee.
After you reserve, HonestPet coordinates the trip from the breeder's home to yours in Montana with the altitude in mind. A final vet exam, breathing checked at rest and after play, comes first; then the puppy rides in a climate-controlled vehicle that climbs gradually, with an overnight on the way, or flies in the cabin with a nanny, and never in cargo. You'll know the schedule in advance, get the altitude briefing before arrival, and hear from us at each step.
Typically 3 to 5 hours including a connection, depending on the breeder's location and which airport you choose, and the nanny keeps the layover short and the carrier where the cabin air moves. For the whole flight the puppy rides in a ventilated carrier at the nanny's feet, and once on the ground the nanny keeps that first hour quiet while it meets the altitude. The hold is never an option for a French Bulldog.
Sometimes. Where the breeder's location and schedule make it possible, HonestPet can set up a visit so you meet the puppy and the parents and hear the adults breathe after they've been playing. Because our breeders live in several states and keep their locations private, each visit is arranged separately rather than offered as drop-in hours.
