A Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle: the Cavalier's affectionate, easygoing temperament and the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat. They're sized for a Johnson County subdivision or a Wichita apartment, they ride well in the car, and they take a Kansas summer, a Kansas winter, and the wind in between as long as the couch is involved.
Most of our Cavapoos finish between 10 and 23 pounds. That's within the pet weight limits most Kansas apartment communities and HOAs set, and small enough to scoop up and carry to the basement when the sirens go off.
Their wavy or curly coats shed very little. No dog is fully hypoallergenic, but many people with mild allergies live comfortably with a Cavapoo.
Cavapoos are patient and gentle, which is why so many families with young children choose them. Supervised play is still a must.
Poodle smarts plus a real wish to please. Short, consistent sessions go a long way with potty training and basic manners.
Cavapoos are moderate-energy dogs. A couple of walks and some fetch keep them happy, and they'll gladly join you at the Shawnee Mission Park off-leash area, on the Lawrence Levee Trail, or at Pawnee Prairie in Wichita. In July, walk early and late; in January, a sweater and a quick loop around the block will do.
Cavapoos want to be wherever you are. They're a great fit for work-from-home schedules. If you're gone 10 hours a day, plan on a dog walker.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME
Most Kansas families choose free ground delivery, which brings your puppy to your door in a climate-controlled vehicle. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny can carry your puppy in the cabin to one of three airports serving Kansas. HEALTH FIRST
Cavaliers and Poodles each have known inherited health risks, which is why we’re working toward having all of our breeders complete genetic screening for the conditions most relevant to the Cavapoo breed. Testing varies by parent; ask to review available results for the parents of any puppy you’re considering.
A Cavalier condition that shows up in a puppy's first weeks. Affected puppies can't make normal tears and develop a rough coat, flaky skin, and cracked, sore paw pads. It's only a risk when both parents have Cavalier ancestry, as in F2 and multigeneration Cavapoos.
A slow spinal cord disease that usually doesn't appear until later in life, often after age 8. It starts with wobbly, dragging back legs and gradually leads to hind-end weakness. It isn't painful, but there's no cure, so testing the parents is the best protection.
Another Cavalier condition. When an affected dog gets excited, stressed, or exercises hard, its muscles stiffen and it may freeze mid-step or fall over. The dog stays fully awake through each episode. Signs usually start before the first birthday.
A Poodle condition that affects newborns. Affected puppies are born small and weak, have trouble with balance, and often develop seizures. Because they rarely survive their first few weeks, this test is about pairing parents so no puppy is born with it.
One of the more common inherited conditions in Toy and Miniature Poodles. The retina slowly breaks down, starting with night blindness in adulthood and often leading to full blindness. It isn't painful and most dogs adjust well, but the vision loss can't be reversed.
A bleeding disorder where blood doesn't clot as well as it should. Many dogs with it live normal lives, but they can bleed longer after surgery, an injury, or losing baby teeth. Knowing the parents' results helps your vet plan ahead for spay or neuter.
Before any puppy leaves for Kansas, a licensed vet performs a full nose-to-tail exam: heart and lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, skin, and a check for hernias. The vet issues a health certificate for interstate travel, and a copy of the exam goes into the puppy's digital records for your Kansas vet.

We’re working toward having every parent DNA tested and screened for relevant heart, knee, and eye conditions before breeding. Every puppy also receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Check your lease for weight limits and pet fees, and plan on a few walks a day, timed around the heat in summer. They're just as happy in a Lenexa house with a fenced yard.
It depends on the city. Kansas doesn't issue a statewide dog license, but Overland Park, Olathe, Lawrence, Topeka, Wichita, and most other cities require an annual license tied to a current rabies certificate. Kansas also has no statewide rabies law, so the vaccine requirement comes from your city or county as well. Check your city's animal control page for fees and deadlines.
