THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Illinois Families Choose HonestPet

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise litters inside their homes, not kennel buildings. Puppies that have already heard the garbage truck, the vacuum, and a houseful of kids are far less rattled by an "L" train rumbling past a Lakeview apartment or a busy cul-de-sac in Schaumburg.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Health-Tested Parents

Most of our puppies’ parents are DNA tested. Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad, so you can review this information before choosing your puppy.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll match you with the puppy that suits your routine, even if it isn't the one you first fell for. A mellow pup for a Gold Coast high-rise, a more spirited one for a Peoria family with a fenced yard.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why Cavapoos Do So Well in Illinois Homes

A Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle cross, which means the Cavalier's warm, people-centered temperament and the Poodle's intelligence and low-shedding coat. They're sized for a city apartment, cheerful in a suburban yard, and perfectly content to spend a January evening on the couch with you.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Most of our Cavapoos finish between 10 and 23 pounds. That fits the pet weight limits many Chicago high-rises and suburban rental communities enforce, and it's an easy size to carry up three flights of stairs or across a snowy parking lot.

Low-Shedding Coat

Their wavy or curly coats shed very little. No dog is fully hypoallergenic, but many people with mild allergies live comfortably with a Cavapoo.

Gentle With Kids

Cavapoos are patient and gentle, which is why so many families with young children choose them. Supervised play is still a must.

Quick to Train

Poodle smarts plus a real wish to please. Short, consistent sessions go a long way with potty training and basic manners.

Moderate Energy

Cavapoos are moderate-energy dogs. A few walks and some indoor play keep them happy, and they'll gladly join you on the Lakefront Trail when it warms up. In a Chicago winter, keep walks short on the coldest days, and wipe paws after salted sidewalks.

Made for Company

Cavapoos want to be wherever you are. They're a great fit for work-from-home schedules. If you're gone 10 hours a day, plan on a dog walker.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your Cavapoo Home

Most Illinois families choose free ground delivery, which brings your puppy to your door. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny can carry your puppy in the cabin to one of eight Illinois airports. Our team sets the date with you and keeps you updated from departure to arrival.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is our preferred way to bring a Cavapoo to Illinois. It's a reasonable drive, and puppies ride in a climate-controlled vehicle with regular water and potty breaks. Cavapoos are relaxed travelers, and most sleep through the trip and wake up ready to meet their family.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Want to meet in person? When the breeder's location and availability allow, HonestPet can arrange a visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery to Illinois.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any Illinois airport we serve. Your puppy rides in the cabin with the nanny, never in cargo, which also means winter cold-weather embargoes on checked pets don't apply. The nanny meets you at arrivals and hands your puppy to you.

Not sure which option fits? Send us a message and we'll help you sort it out.

HEALTH FIRST

Cavapoo Parent Health Screening

Cavaliers and Poodles each have known inherited health risks, which is why we’re working toward having all of our breeders complete genetic screening for the conditions most relevant to the Cavapoo breed. Testing varies by parent; ask to review available results for the parents of any puppy you’re considering.

Parents

Curly Coat / Dry Eye Syndrome

A Cavalier condition that shows up in a puppy's first weeks. Affected puppies can't make normal tears and develop a rough coat, flaky skin, and cracked, sore paw pads. It's only a risk when both parents have Cavalier ancestry, as in F2 and multigeneration Cavapoos.

Parents

Degenerative Myelopathy

A slow spinal cord disease that usually doesn't appear until later in life, often after age 8. It starts with wobbly, dragging back legs and gradually leads to hind-end weakness. It isn't painful, but there's no cure, so testing the parents is the best protection.

Parents

Episodic Falling Syndrome

Another Cavalier condition. When an affected dog gets excited, stressed, or exercises hard, its muscles stiffen and it may freeze mid-step or fall over. The dog stays fully awake through each episode. Signs usually start before the first birthday.

Parents

Neonatal Encephalopathy

A Poodle condition that affects newborns. Affected puppies are born small and weak, have trouble with balance, and often develop seizures. Because they rarely survive their first few weeks, this test is about pairing parents so no puppy is born with it.

Parents

Progressive Retinal Atrophy

One of the more common inherited conditions in Toy and Miniature Poodles. The retina slowly breaks down, starting with night blindness in adulthood and often leading to full blindness. It isn't painful and most dogs adjust well, but the vision loss can't be reversed.

Parents

von Willebrand Disease

A bleeding disorder where blood doesn't clot as well as it should. Many dogs with it live normal lives, but they can bleed longer after surgery, an injury, or losing baby teeth. Knowing the parents' results helps your vet plan ahead for spay or neuter.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Before any puppy leaves for Illinois, a licensed vet gives them a full nose-to-tail exam: heart and lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, skin, and a hernia check. The vet issues a certificate of veterinary inspection for the trip, and a copy of the exam goes into the puppy's digital records so your Illinois vet has the full history.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Each puppy is current on core vaccines for their age and has been dewormed on a regular schedule since their first weeks. Your vet will complete the series, including the rabies shot Illinois requires by 4 months of age. Every puppy is microchipped, and we'll help you register the chip in your name, which also makes the Cook County and Chicago registration paperwork easier.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Cavapoo Puppy FAQs

Our Cavapoo puppies are $2,500 to $6,000, depending on size, coat, and color. The price of each puppy includes vaccinations, deworming, a microchip, a vet exam, lifetime training and support, a digital copy of their records, and free ground delivery to your home.

Yes. Most families choose free ground delivery straight to their door. Flight nanny delivery is also available to major Illinois airports including O'Hare, Midway, Rockford, Quad Cities, Peoria, Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, and Champaign, depending on route and availability.

While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Cavapoos are known for their low-shedding coats and can be a good choice for some families with mild dog allergies. How much a Cavapoo sheds can vary based on their individual coat genetics and generation, with some puppies inheriting more of the Poodle’s low-shedding coat characteristics. If allergies or shedding are a concern, review each puppy’s generation and coat type, and talk with our team about which available Cavapoo may be the best fit for your family.

Most Cavapoos weigh 10 to 23 pounds and stand 9 to 14 inches tall as adults. Size depends mostly on the Poodle parent. We list an estimated adult weight for every puppy we have available.

Your puppy comes home with a starter bag of food, a blanket that smells like their littermates, a toy, microchip details, and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Pick an available puppy then send us an inquiry. After we talk, a $349 deposit holds your puppy. The balance is due before go-home day.

We’re working toward having every parent DNA tested and screened for relevant heart, knee, and eye conditions before breeding. Every puppy also receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Available parent health and genetic testing results can be viewed on our Parents page.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

ILLINOIS QUESTIONS

Getting a Cavapoo in Illinois: Your Questions Answered

What Illinois families ask us most, from the pet store law to Chicago licensing and winter walks.

No. Since February 2022, Illinois pet stores have been allowed to offer only dogs and cats from shelters and rescues, so a breeder-raised Cavapoo can't come from a store. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Illinois families directly with vetted home breeders, share each puppy's parent health testing, and coordinate delivery to your door.

For most people, yes. Cavapoos are small, fairly quiet, and don't need a yard, which suits a high-rise in Streeterville or a three-flat in Logan Square. Check your building's pet policy first, since many Chicago buildings set weight limits and charge pet fees. Plan on several walks a day, and a dog walker if you're downtown all day.

Illinois leaves licensing to counties and cities. In Chicago, every dog 4 months and older needs a city license, and Cook County requires a rabies tag that doubles as county registration. Many other counties and towns have their own tags. In every case, you'll need a current rabies certificate, which state law requires by 4 months of age.

Once you reserve your puppy, HonestPet coordinates the trip from the breeder's home to yours. Your puppy gets a final vet exam and a travel health certificate, then rides to Illinois in a climate-controlled delivery vehicle or in the cabin with a flight nanny to your nearest airport. We confirm the schedule with you and send updates along the way.

Flights into Illinois are usually short, about 1 to 2 hours, depending on where the breeder is located and which airport you choose. Your puppy stays with the flight nanny from gate to gate and rides in the cabin, never as cargo.

Sometimes, yes. When the breeder's location and schedule allow, HonestPet can set up an in-person visit so you can meet your puppy before delivery. Because our breeders are located in different areas and we protect their privacy, visits are arranged individually rather than offered as open appointments.
