THE HONESTPET DIFFERENCE

Why Alabama Families Choose HonestPet for a French Bulldog

Buying a puppy online takes trust. Here's what you can count on when you work with us.

Raised in Breeders' Homes

Our breeders raise French Bulldogs in the house, where the litter learns a screen door, a game-day crowd on the TV, and a kid's cleats on the kitchen floor before it ever leaves. A Frenchie that grew up in a family instead of a kennel building settles into a Homewood bungalow, a Madison two-story, or a Fairhope cottage the first evening, not the third week.

Handled From Day Three

Our breeders begin Early Neurological Stimulation when puppies are three days old and follow Puppy Culture practices until they’re ready to join their new families. Short, gentle daily handling helps puppies become more comfortable with new experiences as they grow.

Parent Health Records

Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health records, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments; screening coverage varies by parent.

Honest Puppy Matching

We'll point you to the puppy that breathes easiest, which in an Alabama August is the most important thing we can tell you about a French Bulldog, and to the temperament that fits your home. The calmest pup for a retired couple on the Eastern Shore, the sturdier one for a Hoover family with kids who'll have it at every tailgate, in the shade with a water bowl.

A Guarantee in Writing

Every puppy comes with a 10-year genetic health guarantee and a digital copy of their vet and vaccine records.

Support for Life

Message our Care360 Team at 10 weeks or 10 years. We stay in touch with our families for the life of the dog.

ABOUT THE BREED

Why French Bulldogs Fit Alabama, Tailgate to Beach House

A French Bulldog is a compact 20 to 28 pounds of bat ears, folds, and comic timing, and it wants a short walk, a long nap, and a porch to supervise from. It barely barks and doesn't need a yard. What Alabama throws at the breed is a long, wet summer; Mobile is one of the rainiest cities in the country and the humidity sits on the whole state from May into September. A flat face can't cool a dog through that, so an Alabama Frenchie lives in air conditioning and walks at the edges of the day, and a game-day tailgate in September is shade, water, and a short visit.

Apartment-Friendly Size

Our French Bulldogs land between 20 and 28 pounds. That's under the pet cap in most Birmingham and Huntsville apartment buildings, fits a carrier for the drive to the beach, and is light enough to carry across hot sand at Orange Beach or a hot parking lot at Bryant-Denny, which from June on is how this breed crosses either one.

Short, Smooth Coat

French Bulldogs have short, smooth coats and do shed. Regular brushing helps manage loose hair, and their skin folds need gentle cleaning and drying. They are not a hypoallergenic breed.

Playful Family Companions

Frenchies are playful and affectionate. Supervise interactions with children, teach gentle handling, and give your puppy a quiet place to rest. Keep play short and cool rather than encouraging rough play or long chases.

Patient, Positive Training

A Frenchie can be clever and independent. Use short sessions, rewards, and consistent potty routines to build good habits. Our lifetime training support helps you work through puppy manners without harsh methods.

Short Walks, Cool Play

A pair of short walks and some play on the rug is a full day's exercise for a Frenchie. In an Alabama summer, walk before seven and after dark, keep it to ten or fifteen minutes, and come inside at the first heavy pant; Railroad Park in October is a perfect Frenchie walk, the same park at two in July is not. At the Gulf, on Lake Martin, Smith Lake, or Guntersville, a life vest goes on before the puppy is near the water, because French Bulldogs cannot swim.

Made for Company

French Bulldogs enjoy being near their people. Build up time alone gradually, and arrange company and potty breaks when you will be away for long stretches. An air-conditioned home and a predictable routine help them stay comfortable.

GETTING YOUR PUPPY HOME

Three Ways to Get Your French Bulldog Home

Most Alabama families take free ground delivery straight to the door, which for a flat-faced puppy is the gentlest route. If you'd rather fly, a flight nanny carries your Frenchie in the cabin to one of five Alabama airports; airlines won't take a French Bulldog in cargo, and neither would we. Whichever you choose, we settle the date together, put a summer handoff in the early morning, and keep you posted until the puppy is on your porch.

Most Popular

Ground Transport

Ground delivery is our first choice for a Frenchie, and the Alabama route is planned around the humidity: cooled vehicle the whole way, a shaded and ventilated crate, brief stops, and a handoff before the heat index climbs. Most puppies doze from the breeder's driveway to yours and never set foot in an airport.

Pick Up at the Breeder

Want to meet your puppy first? When the breeder's location and schedule line up, HonestPet can help arrange an in-person visit before your Frenchie heads to Alabama.

Flight Nanny

A flat $799 to any Alabama airport we serve. Your Frenchie rides in a ventilated soft carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin, the only way this breed should ever fly, and Birmingham and Huntsville both take nonstops from most breeder regions, which keeps a brachycephalic puppy's time in the air short. At arrivals the nanny finds you and hands over the puppy.

HEALTH FIRST

French Bulldog Health and Parent Screening

French Bulldogs need particular attention to breathing, heat tolerance, and spine and joint health. Parent screening and available records vary by dog; ask to review the findings for the parents of the puppy you are considering. A DNA test or veterinary exam is not a guarantee against future breathing or mobility problems, and your vet can help plan ongoing care.

Parents & puppies

Airway and Breathing

Flat-faced dogs can have narrowed nostrils and other airway problems. Ask what breathing assessments are available for the parents, and discuss your puppy's breathing with your vet. Snoring and poor exercise tolerance deserve attention rather than being dismissed as normal.

Parents & puppies

Spine and Back Health

Ask about the parents' spine-health history and any available veterinary findings. French Bulldogs can develop spinal problems; keeping them lean and using ramps instead of repeated jumps can help with daily care, but does not eliminate the risk.

Parents & puppies

Hips and Knees

Review any available hip and knee assessments for the parents with our team. Your vet can check your puppy's gait and joints and advise on suitable exercise. Do not assume every parent has had the same examinations.

Parents & puppies

Eye Health

Ask which parent eye examinations or genetic results are available. Frenchies' prominent eyes need care; contact your vet about redness, squinting, or discharge, and protect the eyes during play.

Puppies

Skin Folds and Care

Discuss skin-fold cleaning and any signs of irritation with your vet. Keep folds clean and dry, watch for itching or redness, and ask for guidance before using skin products. Short coats still need regular brushing.

Parents

Parent Health Records

Each puppy’s listing identifies the DNA testing status of both mom and dad. Ask to review available parent health and genetic records before reserving. Genetic results do not replace a clinical assessment of breathing, spine, or joint health.

Puppies

Vet Exam

Every Frenchie bound for Alabama gets a full exam from a licensed vet before departure, with the breed's weak points front and center: nostril openings, breathing at rest and after play, spine alignment, hips and knees, and the skin folds. The vet issues the certificate of veterinary inspection Alabama requires for dogs entering the state, and the exam notes go into the puppy's digital records for your Birmingham, Huntsville, or Mobile vet.

Puppies

Shots, Deworming, Microchip

Core vaccines are complete and documented for the puppy's age, and deworming has run on a schedule since week two. Your Alabama vet finishes the series, including the rabies shot state law requires by 3 months and whose tag is your dog's registration in most of the state, and should start heartworm and flea prevention immediately, since Alabama's mosquito season barely pauses. Ask how to keep the face folds and tail pocket dry in Alabama's humidity, since yeast follows damp skin, and how to keep the puppy lean, since in this breed weight is a breathing problem. The microchip is in before the trip, and we put the registration in your name at the handoff.

Yes. Most Alabama families take free ground delivery to the door, which keeps a Frenchie in a cooled vehicle the whole way. In-cabin flight nanny delivery is also available into Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, and Dothan, depending on route and availability, with the puppy at the nanny's feet in the cabin. A French Bulldog never flies as cargo.

Our French Bulldogs typically finish between 20 and 28 pounds. Review the individual puppy’s estimated adult size and parent information with our team, and check your building's pet policy before reserving.

Parent testing varies by breeder and by dog. Review the available DNA testing status and health records for the puppy’s mom and dad with our team, including any breathing, spine, hip, and knee assessments. Every puppy receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip before going home. Your vet can help plan ongoing French Bulldog care; screening does not guarantee freedom from future health problems.

Each breeder may have a different preferred puppy food, so we provide the specific brand and formula your puppy is currently eating to help make the transition to your home as smooth as possible. If you decide to switch foods, we recommend transitioning gradually to help avoid digestive upset.

Our puppies go home at 8 weeks old.

THE JOURNEY HOME

How Frenchie Delivery to Alabama Works

Free ground delivery to the door is how most of our Alabama French Bulldogs arrive. Families who'd rather fly book the flight nanny, who brings the puppy in the cabin to one of five Alabama airports, carrier at their feet in cabin air from boarding to arrivals.

What ground delivery looks like

  1. We set the date together.Once the vet clears your puppy to travel, we schedule a delivery day and give you an arrival window.
  2. Your puppy rides with a trained handler. They travel in their own crate in a climate-controlled vehicle, with regular stops for water, food, and potty breaks.
  3. We keep you posted. Our delivery team sends updates along the way and lets you know when your puppy is getting close.
  4. We bring your puppy to your door.Your handler carries the puppy and starter bag to the door and runs through the heat and humidity basics before heading off. In a downtown Birmingham or Huntsville building they'll coordinate with the front desk ahead of time, and from May through September the handoff is scheduled for early morning, because a French Bulldog shouldn't wait in Alabama humidity.
  5. Help them settle in.Have a crate, a few puppy pads, water, and their food ready so your puppy can rest after the trip.

ALABAMA QUESTIONS

Getting a French Bulldog in Alabama: Your Questions Answered

Humidity, game days, Gulf weekends, rabies tags, pet store rules, and how delivery works: what Alabama Frenchie families ask us most.

Alabama has no statewide ban, though a few cities, Tuscaloosa among them, have passed their own. Where stores still sell French Bulldogs, the puppies are shipped in from large out-of-state kennels where nobody evaluated the parents' breathing, and priced high because Frenchies are the most profitable puppy those kennels produce. A store can't show you the mother or the home. HonestPet is not a pet store. We connect Alabama families directly with vetted breeders who raise Frenchies at home, share the parents' screening, and deliver to your door.

Yes, and both downtowns are full of them. A Frenchie rarely barks, needs very little exercise, and is content in a Parkside loft or a Huntsville one-bedroom as long as the AC runs. The condition is the summer: a flat-faced dog can't handle an Alabama afternoon from May to September, so walks happen early and short, and a parked car is off-limits. Most Birmingham and Huntsville buildings set a weight cap well above a Frenchie, but confirm yours.

It depends on the city. Alabama has no statewide license, and in most of the state the rabies tag your vet issues is your Frenchie's registration. Some cities layer a separate annual license on top of that, so a call to your city clerk or animal control office settles it. Statewide, every dog must have the rabies vaccine by 3 months and wear the tag.

Once you've reserved, HonestPet arranges the trip from the breeder's home to your Alabama address. A final vet exam, breathing evaluated at rest and after activity, comes first; then the puppy travels in a climate-controlled vehicle or in the cabin with a flight nanny, and cargo is never an option. The schedule reaches you before departure, a summer handoff stays out of the heat, and a message arrives at every handoff.

Usually 1 to 2 hours, and Birmingham and Huntsville both take nonstops, which is the best case for a brachycephalic puppy. The puppy spends the whole flight in a ventilated carrier at the nanny's feet in the cabin. The hold is never an option for a French Bulldog.

In some cases. If the breeder's location and calendar work out, HonestPet can set up a visit so you meet the puppy, see the parents, and listen to them breathe after a few minutes of play. We keep breeder addresses private and they live in different states, so a visit is arranged one family at a time rather than offered as a walk-in.
